actually you tard this is legal there is nothing in the rule books that says a player cannot try to distract another player? why should this be a dirty play? If your getting millions to play a professional sport then you do not go around complaining about how another player yells something out at you, your supposed to have enough concentration to drown him out your not even suppose to hear him, and another point why is this play considered illegal but when there is a double play in the making the runner has the right to TRY to get in the way???? A-Rod was doing what every child, kid, young adult and what hopefully every major leaguer does and that is do everything in your power to help your team and do everything in your power to make the other team look silly, A-Rod did nothing wrong instead of every reporter talking about how A-Rod did a dirty play reporters should be writting about how the third baseman was actually able to be distracted so easily when he is supposed to be the best in the world?? i still dont get this A-Rod is dirty because he is helping his team to win, but the Third baseman is looked at as a victim because he was to incompetent to drown A-Rod out and do what he is payed millions to do and that is to get the EASY outs. That is it A-Rod did what everybody SHOULD do and gets ridiculed and the third baseman did what NO PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE SHOULD DO WHICH WAS MISS AN EASY OUT AND HE IS A VICTIM WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL RIDICULE THE THIRD BASEMEN FOR ACTUALLY FALLING FOR IT AND PRAISE A-ROD FOR KNOWING HIS TEAM NEEDED A WIN AND SHOWED HEART AND DETERMINATION TO WIN A GAME.

It's technically legal, but it does violate one of baseball's many unwritten laws. The reason yelling "mine" violates baseball's honor code is pretty simple. The thirdbaseman hears someone calling him off...if he doesn't bail, there could be a collision. Calling the ball is a smart play...but also a safe play. A-Rod messed around with that and it was a bush league move.
As far as his claim that he didn't yell "mine," I don't buy it. The third baseman backed off that pop-up because he was called off it, not because he was distracted by A-Rod. The video seems to clearly show this.
I like A-Rod....always have, but that move lowered him in my estimation.

A runner is out when...
He intentionally interferes with a thrown ball; or hinders a fielder attempting to make a play on a batted ball;
Rule 7.08(b) Comment: A runner who is adjudged to have hindered a fielder who is attempting to make a play on a batted ball is out whether it was intentional or not.
It is hard to say if the umpire believes he yelled, and it was deliberate it can be interpreted as interference by the umpire, but there is no rule stating that yelling is interference, its the discretion of the umpire.

No its interference if the ump hears it. Also if you watch the close up of the video it is clear that the first sound he makes with his mouth is a "mmmm" sound like "Mine!!!".
Its not legal you tards! The players are supposed to be forced to differentiate between voices on every single pop up if the opposing players decide to yell mine? Dont answer the question so definitively if you dont know what you are talking about.
"hinders a fielder attempting to make a play on a batted ball;"<-----couldnt be any clearer as long as the umpire knows how to read english.

Yes it is legal in fact it happens all the time. I think it is because he plays for the Yankees that this is getting so much attention. I seen a Mets Marlins game and I don't know how many times the Marlins did that to the Mets in one game. and compared to Ty Cobb A-Rod looks like an angle when it comes to legal dirty moves to win a game.

Im dominican, from brooklyn, play baseball, and have a team full of dominicans. Lol, i think i have the right to say that its in dominican nature to do whatever you have to to get what you want. It was a little dirty but all together hillarious. If I was the third basemen and I dropped the ball, I would accept the fact that I got fooled. (plus im not stupid enough to yell at A-rod, we all know what he did to Varitek.) lol

It could be considered interference, especially if he yelled something like "mine" or "got it". The would be at the umpire or referee's discretion. Even if it is legal, it is still pretty cheap and shows the type of person A-Rod is.

Well, it is definitely legal, but it really shows his character. Sure, he gets away with it, and the Blue Jays 3b made a mental mistake, but that's just a cheap play that goes into the books as a basehit but is really not how you want to be winning games anyways. I guess the Yankees are just that desperate to win these days. Haha.

In pro ball there is no infraction as verbal interference. The play was dirty but legal by pro rules. He has to physically hinder or impede the fielder's opportunity to field the ball.
In HS rules it is interference as there is a clarification to verbal intent to hinder the fielder.
Rodriguez needs to sent to baseball purgatory -- KC. He has been a cancer in every lockerrom and I have always said he is a dirty player.

It's up to the umpires to call it. Apparently even ARod according to a YAHOO sports article ahs tried to use it before. It can be considered INTERFERENCE. He called out MINE, and prevented teh 3rd baseman from completing the play. If he tries it against ether Shilling or Beckett this wknd, he'll be wearing a fastball in the ear flap this wknd..........
