Is it okay for bala sharks and pacus to live together?
I have 2 pacus and they are about 4 inches each. I want to get bala sharks, what is a good size for the bala sharks to be with my pacus?

And do bala sharks eat goldfish too?

Thanks!

Not really such a good mix as they are both active swimmers and need plenty of room. As barb said they both get large (though the sizes she quoted are really max for in the wild) and will need tons of tank space in the very near future. Unless you are ready to buy a tank over 300 gallons or so you need to be concerned about finding a new home for the Pacu eventually and not adding other potentially trouble fish to the tank.

One of the saddest things about keeping fish is the death of your charges, Pacu's can get to 3ft, where is the average person going to keep a fish that size? Please take the Pacu's back to the shop and get Silver dollars instead they're similar and grow only to 6in, the bala's will grow to maybe 10/12in in a tank, so i still hope you get something along the size of 120/150 gallons as they very active fish.

If your LFS tells you they grow to the size of the tank ask him to explain how that works.
All fish have a glands that produces a chemical stored in vitamin b the fish release it into the water, the glands then measures what the concentration of that chemical is, if the concentration is getting stronger the fish stop growing. That's easy!!

What happens to fish that live in rivers, simple the gland is under developed because its of no use to it. Pacu's live in rivers hence the expression tank busters, they will grow and exceed the size of the tank it they didn't die before hand.

and no bala sharks won't eat gold fish unless they can fit it in there mouth, any fish will eat anything that can fit in its mouth if it is infront of it, however goldfish are extremely messy eaters they require 24in of surface area per inch of fish, they really should be kept in a large tank or pond.

Umm...how big is the tank first off? Pacus get between 36 - 48" and can't be kept in most home aquariums. The bala shark gets over 14 inches. It requires about a 100 gallon aquarium. 2 pacus would require about 100 gallons as well...at least 6 feet long. Is your aquarium large enough for these 2 behemoths?
And what do you mean by eat goldfish, too? Pacus are vegetarians. I hope you aren't feeding them goldfish.
Balas are omnivores and will eat vegetation and live food.

through fact human beings purchase them. and because alot of individuals who do have set up a proper sized tank for their chosen species. not each physique who buys a tank buster is an fool. i could not often evaluate maximum of their fish tank buster as nicely. The koi are offered for ponds. maximum individuals have not got an area source for koi. Petsmart and Petco etc are the place they source them. no remember if or not they tell the everyday public doesnt remember. they won't pay attention. human beings get protecting and purely hang closer to their misconceptions while confronted. I watch it take place known in fishstores. superb this moment some lady doomed a goldfish to die regardless of what the girl stated. "can we get that oranda?" "particular!" *Glances at 5 gallon tank in cart* "Is that for the goldie?" "particular!" "I hate to tell you this yet tanks could be appropriate cycled until now including fish to dodge poisoning, and that tank is purely too small for a goldfish. Goldfish want a minimum of 29+ gallons with heavy filtration." "nicely no offense hun yet I had a goldfish in a bowl and it lived to an previous age of 5 years. purely through fact which you paintings in a fish section would not advise you be conscious of approximately fish." The communication went on like that for a couple of minutes. It ended with the female purely flat out refusing to hearken to the girl and buying the fish besides. And smaller fish shops are worse. a minimum of the super companies have court situations to worry. each community fishstore close to me has a minimum of three pink tailed cats and one alligator gar on sale. those get way larger than something at petsmart or petco or walmart. and no-one yet an especially wealthy and enthused hobbiest has the time area or funds for a tank to help purely certainly one of those fish. interior the tip the super container shops finally end up being the extra humane decision. For me in any case.

It does not seems like a good idea, both needs a LOT of Space, as Magicman rightly pointed out.
