If you're carrying it around lot go for the 14.1 inch. 15.1 can be a bit heavier and bulky. When you buy, go to Dell.com you can get a great laptop with lots of goodies for under $1000. You start off with a basic model and then customize it as you go. They also have some great discounts on select new models. I bought my Dell Inspiron 1501 with a dual core processor, 2GB Ram, 256 MB Graphics card and 8 x DVD Burner for $849 after discount. You can also pick between Vista or XP for the OS.

well ill talk from personal experience becuz ive had both 14.1" laptop and a 15.4" laptop now. and really ill tell u the truth i traveled a lot with my 14.1" and it was easy to carry around . But now since ive bought the 15.4" and travelled with this then it doesnt seem that much different u know. its just like an inch or 2 more but to me it doesnt make so much difference. i think its about the same. ull just have to worry about the weight. and compare the weight of them and see. but other to that.....ull be taking it in the same bag of a 15". so the bag size which u would be carrying would still be the same. becuz the bag is always a little bigger than the laptop and it can fit both 14.1" and 15.4" so really doesnt matter that much. but personally i prefer the 15.4" over the 14
good luck

Best way to find out is to go and pick em up and get a feel for them yourself.
15.4" isn't bad, it's not small, but it's not big either. I have such a laptop. Though the problem is that it takes a lot of desk space, since its obviously widescreened. If this is just for school, i'd just go for a 4:3 aspect type screen instead.
But you shouldnt have to spend that much, I got my laptop 2 years ago, and it was only $700 then.

24 inch. i take advantage of a 27 inch HD liquid crystal reveal Akai television and the imaging is staggering. that's after employing 2 19 inch CRT video reveal instruments. I now no longer want the 2nd video reveal after the improve, must be an identical for you.

14.1 should be big enough but if your going to watch DVDs on it the 15.4 would be better.

15.4 is fine for moving about, i find any smaller would be too hard to read as the writing would be too small, i have a 15.4 sony vaio and would not want any smaller
