its legal. its just easier to shoot with your foot set, your shoulders squared and your using your knees to get power to shoot. Also its easier to make free throws when your body is relax.

Yes, jumping on a free-throw attempt is legal provided you land behind the free-throw line after the attempt. Hal Greer, who played for the Sixers in the 60's till the 70's, shot his free-throws using his lethal jump shot.

It is not illegal just so long as you don't cross the line. Look at Nick "McQuick". He shot free throws from the back of the circle and jumped (He's in the NBA) but he never crosses the line.
If you have trouble with this just use a lot of leg bend. That's where your shots get their power.

You are allowed to legally but if you do you would have to move back because if you jump from the line exactly you will go over the line and that is illegal (lane violation)

Anyone who needs to jump off some other guy's back in order to dunk is pretty pathetic to begin with. The ref would automatically forfeit the game to the opponent if anyone tried that, just because of the stupidity of it all.

Sure its legal. Nobody does it, but its legal. You can do whatever you want, stand wherever you want, as long as you're inside that semi circle and you don't step on or over any of the lines before the ball touches the rim.

You can jump upward, but it's unnecessary unless you're a child, which is why you probably don't see NBA players do it.

RE :Is jumping on a free-throw attempt legal?
In the NBA, all players do NOT jump while attempting free throws. Is it illegal to jump on a free-throw attempt, or do NBA players just prefer not to jump?
