I base my eyeshadow colors on what I am wearing. If i wear pink, then I pair a shimmery pink with a darker mauve. I personally had blonde hair and blues and greens looked funny on me. I wear a lot of pinks, browns, and suprisingly enough purples (looks good with green eyes).
The best advice that I can give to you would be to experiment. If you know a Mary Kay consultant, ask her for free samples, or go to your nearest drug store and experiment with the cheap brand's colors. Find out what you like and what you think looks good on you.
Try the Avon and Mary Kay websites. They are always full of good makeup tips, and MaryKay even has what they call LOOKS, and it pairs different colors of eyeshadow together.
Mostly just experimentation, has made me more of an expert in applying makeup, and knowing what looks good and what doesnt.
Good Luck!

the right pinks are great. I use a vanilla over the entire area. A color called expensive pink (gold hued pink)(by MAC) over the lid, and Antiqued (a dark coppery pink) in the outer crease and under the eye halfway to open the eye. it can also be used as the liner. Victorias Secret has a good one for a smokey eye. Sexy little Things in Purr. It has silvery flecs in the grey shadow. Is very cute wet also. dampen your shadow brush and apply to the lower lid and in the crease just below the brow bone. again, go under your eye in the outer corner. Have fun and play around.

It depends on what color of eyes you have. If you have blue eyes wear blue eye shadow that makes them POP! If you have green eyes wear like a light brown/tan color or like a silver so it will make your eyes stand out a little bit!

Depending on your eyecolor...When in doubt, browns are good.

This color kit looks good on everyone I think.
Contrary to other peoples' opinions, blondes do not necessarily look good in blue eyeshadow...Does anyone look good in blue eyeshadow? It's kind of 1985.

try this web site that include a virtual makeover, it's is from mary kay.
http://www.marykay.com/whatsnew/virtualmakeover/default.aspx
only to compare the color combination, you can ask from free samples to any consultant from mary kay, or you can compare color and buy it in the store,
almay have very good conbinations of colors for eye shadows.
the best think is to try colors on and see the results.

it really doesn't depend on what hair color you have, it is more your eye and skin color, but browns and maybe blues will work as well
try doing one of those virtual makeovers or go to a professional

If you have blue eyes, a nice plum-purple looks good... I have the same colouring.
