I have a screened in deck and my dryer vent is unfortunately in the screened in deck area. It causes the deck, screening and deck furniture to get very dusty. I dont know what to do since I cannot completely block the vent as this would be a fire hazard. Short of moving the vent-which I dont know how easy that would be, do I have any other options?

you can buy a filter and have the dryer venting into house they sell special kits for this at the hardware store. But I really think that you should change the dryer tube ,I mean the white corrugated one it might be full of lint and dust ! Beside that the humidity makes the lint stick to it and they need to be changed from time to time.

Make sure you are cleaning the lint trap out every time you use the dryer. Also, if you have to run the dryer more than once for a load, clean the lint trap out before you re-start the dryer to finish drying the load. You also want to make sure that you dryer is vented OUTSIDE. Check to make sure the dryer vent tube is secured without gaps or holes to the dryer, and to the pipe which takes the air from inside to outside. You should always use an aluminum dryer vent hose, never a plastic one. Lint is VERY flammable, so make sure everything is clear and set up properly to avoid a fire hazard. Good luck! :)

You might consider a device called a dryer lint trap. It is used where you cannot vent the dryer to the outside. Look at www.indoorlintrapfilter.com. or do an internet search on dryer lint trap. The site I looked at did not recommend theirs for a gas dryer only electric. Their may be others which work on gas.

There is a little kit from Lowe's called a heat reclaimer. It hooks on the wall and the dryer hose hooks into it. It is a cup of water, and the lint goes down into the water and stays. If I remember correctly it was less than $10. I used it when we were really poor and it supplemented the heating in our house. Just remember to change water whenever you are doing laundry.

This will sound silly but, we had this kind of problem in our first apartment. I just took a nylon stocking, slipped it over the end of the vent and tied it tightly. They catch a lot of dust! Be sure you clean it regularly too. Don't use the one with "runners" the snags are better! The runners give the dust an exit hole. Dust like this can catch fire just like not cleaning the vent on the dryer can! Caution rules here!

You can put a fine mesh screen over the hose. Or you can put pantyhose over the outlet hose to trap lint....
