Because I keep hearing that in order to get a police report you have to be the victim, accused, lawyer, law enforcement agency, etc. You can't just obtain one because you want to.

If this is true, then how do reporters like on Entertainment channels obtain celebrity police reports almost immediately after the crime happens?

its a public document. thats why reporters go directly to a police precinct to get reports from the police blotters or daily report logbook.

Police reports are public records. You should go to the precinct or police station where the report was taken. It helps if you have whatever identification number is used to distinguish this event (police report number, criminal report number). There is sometimes a delay from the time the incident occurred to the police report being available, so you may want to call the station to ask. These reports are probably not free though. You will need to pay to receive them.

Just go to the police station and ask for a background check on a person. It costs like a $1 to get it and it shows everything the person has on them and anybody can get it.. Hope this helped..

If it went to court and is no longer under investigation, you can usually go check public records in person.
