First of all, there's not enough oxygen in Mars' atmosphere for any Earth plant to grow. Secondly, scientists looking for evidence of life developing independently on Mars go to great lengths, sterilizing spacecraft so that no Earth organisms will be introduced to Mars accidentally.

This probably would have been possible.
But it was not done for a very good reason.
That would be contaminating Mars with our life forms.
Everything that went to Mars was sterilized for exactly that reason.

I don't know. I don't think the atmosphere is thick enough to keep Mars warm enough for ants. I don't think they would survive, but who knows?
