I got 2826, but I was using 3.14 for Pi
So, if you used the Pi key, then you are right.

Actually, it an area question.

The area with radius of 40 = pi*40^2 = 5026.55
The area with radius of 50 = pi*50^2 = 7853.98

The difference is what you want so:

7853.98 - 5026.55 = 2827.43 ~ 2827.4

You have it right.

The answer is
Pi(50^2-40^2)
-3.14(50+40)(50-40)
3.14*90*10
=2826 sq miles
if pi is taken as 22/7,the answer would be 2828.57 sq. miles
