i have an apartment, well i am going to in about a week, it is based on icome, i make very little, so the rent is 450/month, then there is electric/water and so on. i can handle all of that, but then i need furniture, a tv (even w/ just an antenna), a bed.
i can maybe spend 80 dollars somewhere for a used couch, what type of store can i do this in , a thrift store? and a bed needs to be new, even if its an aerobed. but how much is a fair sized livingroom tv?
just tell me, suggest things i can afford, anything.
thanks so much

I think you should try goodwill, thrift stores and classifieds for everything you can, then pick up an Aero bed at walmart. Just get 1 piece at a time if you need to.
Another option is to go to a discount furniture store and see if you qualify for credit (check the % rate and finance charges before signing).
If you end up buying used stuff out of the classifieds, make sure you check the items out good.. Have them plug the T.V. in to see how well it works.
Used 19'' T.V.=$50 tops
best of luck to you =) and God Bless

I would suggest garage sales. People always have furniture and stuff that they will sell cheap, cheap, cheap! Just look in your local paper for garage sales and make a list and hit as many as you can. Go to the ones that advertise the furniture that you are looking for. You may even be able to find a decent TV at one of these sales. You could go to a thrift store, but their prices will probably be higher.
The first thing that you need to get is a bed. You can't function without getting a good nights sleep. So I would splurge just a bit on a bed. Buy new, don't buy someones cast off. You could end up with bed bugs, fleas, lice, ticks, yuck. If you don't have a bed frame, throw the mattress and box springs on the floor and sleep like that for awhile. Another idea would be a nice futon with a good mattress. Couch by day, bed by night. It would do double duty until you can afford a good bed.
As far as a TV, watch for sales at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target or whatever discount retailer that you have close to you. They have sales on their TVs all of the time. You can get a nice 27" TV for around $200.00.
Also look at appliance stores in your area that sell refurbished appliances, TVs, vacuums, etc. You can sometimes get really nice stuff for half the original cost.

Set your priorities. List things in the order you can't live without them. Then, start looking at thrift shops and classified ads. Consider rummage and garage or yard sales.
Don't forget to consider estate auctions. I picked up my first couch and dresser for $1.50 for both ($.50 for the couch and $1.00 for the dresser - someone else bid $.50 for the dresser) at an estate auction. Just remember, auctions do not deliver, so you will need to find a friend with a truck. Another tip: just because the auctioneer is asking $5.00 for an item, if they don't get a bid, you can always call out "fifty cent!" or whatever. The auctioneer has the option of accepting your bid or putting the item aside. And, be careful. It is awful easy to overspend in the competition to be the highest bidder. Get there early, look around, and decide what you are willing to spend on each item in which you are interested. Antiques and collectibles may go high, but the ordinary sofa from the old lady's family room may go cheap. Or it may not. There is always next week!
You could also check with your church. Sometimes they have programs to help.

Check out stuff on Craig's list in your area, also Goodwill has decent stuff for cheap too. Craig's list not only has stuff for sale but they have it for "FREE" if the right person wants it out of their house. I always watch the free section like a hawk. Each of those places should have used tv's, but if you want to go new I'd check out Costco or WalMart. They always are having specials - $200 should easily buy you a nice tv. Most mattress places will throw in the boxsprings and frame (so your mattress isn't on the floor) with the purchase of most mattresses - a cheap mattress can cost as little as $75 and it should last until you can save up for something better. You just have to shop the sales and discount mattress stores - buying mismatched last year's models helps too.
Enjoy your hunt!

If you would like an aero bed then go to Walmart, they have nice ones for really cheap. Do you have a Good Will in your area? We have one that sells furniture. All of the stuff is like new because they won't take it if its not. You can get lamps for 10.00 and coffee tables for 15.00 or 25.00. We had an extra room we wanted to furnish for the kids and We got a couch, chair, lamp, table for 100.00 They even have pictures and stuff. Look in your phone book yellow pages for resale shops. You can get some really good deals on nice stuff. Even if you buy one piece at a time, thats ok.

heres an idea for everything except the bed, buy a newspaper and look in the free ads, if you call in time you can probably find a couch and tv etc... if not also check for sale items in the newspaper, look at thrift stores etc. and good luck!
