Oh, my! Did you not have any history classes? First, "Puritans" is a name their detractors called them. What did they hope to accomplish in the New World? Freedom to worship God their way instead of the way the King of England told them to worship. They were imprisoned in England, tortured and put to death for their beliefs.

Basically the Kingdom of God on earth. But their version of it, not total Religious freedom. One of the ironies of the Purtains in New England is that they came to America to escape Religious persecution and the persecuted everyone else who did not toe their line. After the "Restoration", when Cromwell died, and Charles's II was brought back as king in England, he actually hunted "Regicides" in New England. Men who had signed his father's death warrant and then gone to New England. This was the frontier back then, as wild as any in some way's and ruled by the elect of God in others.
