I taught my daughter to hate the Patriots - sorry Kelly - I guess you have noticed my Manning jersey. It's all in fun so sure go ahead. MQ - nope - if that were the case all sports fans would be there. BQ - I'm not much of a Baseball fan even though I grew up watching a single "A" farm team of the Orioles because the tickets were cheap and dad loved Baseball. He was a Brooklyn Dodger fan but quit watching them when they moved to LA. He eventually became a Braves fan because they were always on TV. I'm waiting for August when Football starts again. LOL I will watch the Series and the College World Series though. I see 3 of my favorite ladies are here (((Kelly))), (((Stella))) and (((Opi))) (((Stella))) I think he would look good in green but I think the Dolphins are the most interested in him. And yes I would pull for the Jets then unless they played the Saints or The Colts.

I read somewhere that ownership years back refused to have any black players on their team. They had a chance at signing Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson, but wouldn't because they were black. They have had a history of not having many black players or Latino/etc players. When Jim Rice played, he was like the only black player on the team. Manny Ramirez, if I read correctly, was one of the first nonwhite players the Red Sox went after hard to sign.
I had started to read a book called "Shut Out" by Howard Bryant about segregation and baseball in Boston. I never finished it, but I think I'll start reading it again.

Because of being the last team to intergrate a black payer has a lot to do with it.... per wikipedia:
"The 1950s were viewed as a time of tribulation for the Red Sox. Also, unlike many other teams, owner Tom Yawkey refused to sign players of African descent, even passing up chances at future Hall-of-Famers Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, both of whom tried out for Boston and were highly praised by team scouts. Jackie Robinson was even worked out by the team at Fenway Park, however it appeared that owner Tom Yawkey did not want an African American player on his team at that time. The Sox finally became the last Major League team to field an African American player when they promoted infielder Pumpsie Green from their AAA farm team in 1959."
That's 12 years after Jackie Robinson 1st played in 1947.

OK, I'm a huge Yankee fan and I enjoy the rivalry but I have never heard anyone accuse the Red Sox of being a racist organization and I would never make that accusation myself. It has no basis in reality whatsoever.
I know that there are some who accuse the Red Sox of being racist in THE PAST but how can anyone say that they've been that way since the 1970s?

I'm a Yankee fan, and obviously, I hate the Sox. But I never heard anyone call the team racist...I wouldn't think they're racist.
Yankees Love. <3
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the city is multicultural...Who would think they're racist? People are so quick to point fingers these days...

Barry said that, before he signed for like 90 mil in 01 for the Giants.
Another former player, I don't remember his name, but in the 90s, he was held at gunpoint, in front of his wife, on the ground, while shopping for a house! Why? Because someone reported a black guy in the area had committed a crime!
I live in SF, and if you come to the Marina district, where there are tons of tranplanted Boston folks, none of them are hanging with black folks.
It is a fact.

I dont know about that statement. I have noticed that the Yankees only have 2 African players (one of them says he is anyway), but you might be refering to the fact that the Red Sox were the last team to put a black player on their roster post Larry Doby.

I think they were the last team to sign a black player. But that doesnt mean they're a racist team now. Ortiz, Manny, DiceK are all fan favorites. Go Sox!!
