I stutter really badly. I can't say a sentence without stumbling over a word or two. I'm twelve and have been stuttering for as long as I can remember. I really want to stop, but I don't know how.

My mom and teachers are always telling me to slow down, and that really upsets me. I am talking as slow as I can, but it sounds like my mouth's moving really fast! My mom doesn't get it and is always telling me to slow down.

I have to do a stand- up- comedy act tomorrow in one of my classes, and I need a way that I can just relax and now compleatly embarass myself in front of the whole class.

FYI: there are some really mean kids in my class who I just know will make fun of me. Please help!

Honey, hopefully this will help...quit thinking about it...listen what you give your attention to grows...so think of something else and see if it isnt easier to talk...they have done alot of research on the subject go to yahoo and study the subject and the people who have gotten over and how...I know that hypotism has helped one of my friends...quit giving it power. one of the ways he did get help is he pretended to be someone else without a stammer like speaking in an accent and he didnt stammer...see yourself not stammering...relax your brain to know that you are capable of talking calmly and smoothly...ask your mom to see a doctor or hypmotist...and most of all...you can do it...I believe in you...you are brave and you can do anything you want if you want it strong enough.....whatever the mind of man can precieve and believe he can acheive! hope it helps...

I have several uncles and cousins who used to stutter. They all said that they stuttered worse when the tried hard NOT to stutter. Times that they didn't care what others thought, or times that they were with someone they were comfortable around, they hardly stuttered at all. Almost anyone who performs gets nervous before the "show." You have to get in the right frame of mind to go on and do what you have to do using tricks that might work to alleviate some of the nervousness. One thing is to never look at anyone in the audience. Look over their heads at a point in the back of the room. Concentrate on thinking about talking to someone you are really comfortable around; take on the attitude of not caring what other people think of how you talk - it is their problem.

My uncles and cousins all overcame their stuttering by going through the steps in the book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" by The Stuttering Foundation. The said that they went over and over the steps and each time they went through the book, they got better. It takes practice and patience but you can overcome your stuttering.

Don't let anyone make you feel inferior because of your speech. Everyone has something about them that is not perfect. People who have the problem of being rude are far from perfect and have a worse problem than yours.

Just do your best.

okay, if your stuttering is so bad that you've been to a doctor and all that, and it is agreed that this is not just a case of "nerves", there is a device called a vegas nerve stimulator. it's an implant that goes in your chest that is wired under the skin to your vegas nerve which runs up the back of your neck into the brain. the device sends electrical current to the vegas nerve. when you begin to stutter, you can wave a magnet (no not the kitchen letter magnets, one that is provided to you) over the implant in your chest and it will interrupt the current and prevent the stuttering. It also works to control seizures --my husband has one for that reason.

I stuttered alot when I was younger and my parents put me in a speech impediment class at school. Although I still stutter slighty from time to time....like when I'm excited...it helped me a great deal...I would look into it and see what they have to offer where you live.
