They appear to be eating the wood banister because we keep seeing saw dust appear each time we clean it. What is this and can we get rid of it?

well try to seal the railings with paint or varnish. that will slow them down or at least change the flavor enough to send them packing... if you want to go further, spray bug killer about.

If it's ladybugs, they aren't eating anything. You can set them free and they'll eat bad bugs from the garden.

there like lil mites that are attracted to metal and wet wood
