My mom used to know this fortune teller, who apparently has foretold her a lot of things quite accurately. Well, this lady died,
now my mother is, I dare say, obsessed with calling fortune tellers she finds online.
I actually believe she's developing an addiction and it upsets me very much, because these people are not stupid- they take money.
I was wondering your take on this?
Are they a waste of money (I'm sure a lot of them are)
Or did you have a positive experience with somebody once?
Anyway, it's pretty useless trying to convince her to stop, she just keeps calling them *cries*

Fortune Tellers are very mysterious people. Some of them actually have the ability to read your fortune. But the thing is many of them that have their little businesses, especially the on line/phone 1s are fake. That is why many people think all psychics are frauds because it is a popular career for scam artists.
And people shouldn't devote their life to finding fortune tellers and getting information. That's not what life is about. You should really talk to her about this "addiction"

I personally DO believe it's a waste of time and money...of course if that's what people are in to then by all means, do it. But like with your mom and the whole obsession. It gets to the point where somethings gotta give.
It seems that your mother wants to have total/complete control of her future. This in turn has become her obsession with trying to figure out what's going to happen. She needs to find a way to better take control of this. I mean, what's life without the unexpected.
So I'm kinda on the fence with this one. Part of me believes it's coincidence in that they're told what's going to happen and in a way the person starts seeing things how they were foretold it would end up...it's hard for me to explain...
But then the other part of me thinks that some people might actually be gifted with the ability to foretell the future...

It sounds like your mother does have an addiction. Whenever she thinks of calling one maybe you should occupy her time, that way she'll stay busy and not so focused on calling these awful people who are taking your mothers hard earned cash! As for fortune tellers, I'm not sure I buy into it, but I do believe that some people have visions. Have you seen that show about psychic people who are helping solve crimes? There not out for money they are really helping!

I am a tarot card reader a lot of people classify this as fortune telling. I would advise your mother to be VERY careful who she trusts. There are no laws governing fortune tellers, and as such there are many greedy and immoral people who will take her LAST dollar just to put it in their own pocket. Here is a FREE website that can give her the same answers. If she does not trust it, help her find ONE person to help her and make sure that person is trustworthy.

Basically, your Mom got ripped off my a scam artist. Fortune tellers are just keen observers and have a good working knowledge of psychology. The good ones are at best no more crooked than the average therapist.

I don't like the term fortune teller, there are legitimate psychics out there and I did have a positive experience, but they are few and far between, your mom is most likely wasting her money.

most fortunetellers are rip offs. If you could see the future, wou;dn't you win the lottery or something? I know I certianly would and I'd have a stock portfolio like nobodies business. I think occasionally someone has some momentary flash and they see something helpful and it's really easy to be right alot since people remember only the times you were right!
It sounds to me like your mom needs help. Is there someone you know - someone older that she respects - who might say something to her? She may have an Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder. You don't say how old you are, but a teacher, minister or friend of her should be consulted. Your her daughter and even if your an adult, it might be hard for her to listen to you. If you are an adult, you might be able to get her committed or at least get her power of attorney which would enable you to make sure she doesn't spend herself blind so she'll have something for retirement - those phone psychics are expensive. You could have a 900 block put on her phone and other things.
I don't want to turn you on your mom, but OCD is a terrible thing for her to go through, partically because she can't ask for help - might not even realize she needs it.

I personally would never consult anyone online for a fortune telller. They are all set up by computer rather than psychic reading. I have been to at least 3 Palm Readers in my life time & everything they said came true. I have had people give me a reading using Tarot cards.....awesome results...it was all true....& they did not even know me....If you ever seen a sign that says "Palm Reader" or Tarot Card" stop in & get a reading. Find out for your self.

Some fortune tellers are frauds, but that shouldn't cause you to think that ALL are. Nothing is set in stone. They tell you what path you are on, and how to shape the future to you...
