You didn't say whether you are a competitive ballroom dancer or a social ballroom dancer.

It doesn't matter much for social dancing, but it will matter for competitive dancing for two reasons: (1) it's harder for a shorter person to lead a taller person, and to do the figures, and (2) judges evaluate couples on the overall impression they make, and a couple where the woman is taller than the man by several inches will not make a good impression.

Also, are you a Standard (i.e., Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Viennese Waltz) or Latin (i.e., Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive) dancer?

The height difference matters more for Standard, where you are in a closed hold (i.e., body contact throughout the dance) than it does for Latin dancing, where you dance apart. This is despite the fact that a woman's Standard shoe would have a lower heel than a woman's Latin shoe.

Height differential can be an issue if you don't dance "big". The taller your partner is, the "bigger" you must dance. Be sure to dance very much out to your left while you're connected in dance postion. This will create the illusion that the two of you are similar in height. Also, try going for a 2" heel, instead of the traditional 2 1/2-3" in Standard or Smooth dances. In Latin, you may get by pretty well since his shoes are going to have a 2" heel on them.

Thats just fine. In my ballroom class, I'm 5'2'' and was partnered with a guy who's 6'7"... I think they were trying to be funny because it was hard for us to move together. I say as long as the person is a foot taller than the other, then its all good

It would be OK, not ideal but it would still work. If you're just starting out you won't even notice it. As you get more advanced you'll start noticing it more, but you'd still be able to dance together. It will be less of a problem in Latin than in Standard.

Yes, a large height difference is a challenge in keeping your connection, but it isn't insurmountable. A three inch difference shouldn't be much of a problem.

it doesn't matter THAT much. if your dancing is stunning (which it probabally will be) nobody would be looking at the height difference.
Good luck!

it is not the best case but only one inch does not create a big problem
