why is it that soda machines , candy machines, stamp machines, video games (arcade) slot machines, change machines and pretty much anything that dispenses something or that you have to put money in takes bills.

but at the laundry mat you have to put $5 in quarters in the damn washer!! or quarters in the dryer!

why is it that washers and dryers at the laundry still use quarters??

Bill readers get effected by moister, steam, soaps, bleaches, and vibrations. Coin Mech are more durable and can handle a lot of abuse.

Yes alot of the laundry mats just wont change out old machines for new ones. The newest offerings to the market are machines that are computer operated.
Walk thru it with me:
You walk in the door you go to a wall mounted control panel, you look at a menu offering washer, dryer, or service. If you pick service it will ask you questions about the laundry you want to drop off for service. It will dispense a laundry bag and a receipt. You place your laundry in the bag and put it in a drop shoot. The receipt matches the bag number and gives a approximate cost of service.
But lets say were washing, we pick wash. It ask load size, colors or whites, and additives to be added. It will display amount of the wash and wait for payment. Methods of payment are cash, debit, credit, gift cards, or billed to a cell phone. After payment it ask for you to pick a security pin number. The menu will direct you to a machine to place your laundry in. You place your laundry in and close the lid. It weighs the laundry and will alert you if it is over loaded. If all is good the machine will keep the machine locked magnetically until you enter the pin number you picked. All soaps, bleaches, softeners, and starches are added automatically. The security feature allows you to leave for a time with out others being able to disturber your stuff.

Okay the load is done, you go to the menu panel and select your washer and enter your pin. the menu will ask if you would now like to use a dryer? Selecting yes the panel will ask what type of drying is preferred. then for the payment, same as the wash, and then direct you to a dryer. Remove your cloths from the wash and place in the dryer. The door locks as the washer did. The dryer received information from the washer about your cloths and adjust to dry more efficiently due to the water content left in the clothing.

After all is done you choose you dryer number and enter your pin the door will unlock and you get your articles out.

Apartment complexes can also set up for a cashless system that bills you on your rent.

Hope this enlightens others,

It's about $1.25-1.50 per load for a standard washing machine. About $3.00 if you're using one of the heavy-duty front loading machines. It will cost you about 25 cents for 6 minutes in the dryer.
