My mom says that when there is an eclipse that when you're pregnant you can't go outside?

It's probably based on the ancient fear of an eclipse. Face it, it's a little frightening when you go outside during the day and the sun is absent from a clear sky.
Ancient and Medieval people has all sorts of rituals about the eclipse. They would stage mock battles with the dragon eating the sun or make lots of noise to make him go away. They would pray or give offerings.
