I am using one now. It is 6 years old and still going strong. The components are all high quality. Emachine originally built throw away systems that you could not upgrade. This garnered them a reputation for building cheep junk. However this is no longer the case and the are a great value. Tech support was great too.

I have had an eMachine for about 4 years now and have not had any issues with it. It has an AMD AthlonXP 2400+ processor and I have upgraded my memory to 1GB. I have been totally satisfied with it. A friend of mine bought a similar eMachine but with an Intel processor and he has had nothing but problems. That is why I stand by AMD and use an AMD processor in all my machines. I have heard that eMachines was bought out by Gateway so there is no telling what will happen with that. I would be hesitant in buying another eMachine until I heard some very good reviews.

I do like mine. I of course bought it because it was a nice price. Everything is working very well- I've had it since Feb 07. My only complaint, and I've noticed this on other emachine computers (my brother and mom both have one), is that the fan is a bit noisy. If you only have the computer on and no other background noise, you can hear the fan sorta squealing or squeaking or making some faint yet noticeable noise. It's not so distracting that I can't do work or anything like that though. Given the features this has and the performance I get out of it for the price I paid, I'll put up with a little fan noise anyday. For what it's worth, they're made by Gateway.

I have always hated e-machines, but i've never owned one. The reason I hate em, (it's probably unfair) is beacuse my cousin and friend owned a PC from emachines, n they are always bugging me to fix it, or u know get it running again.
Now maybe its just them, that dont know how 2 take care of computers...i've always been a packardbell, and how HP computer owner.
At work we had a bunch of Dells, and 4 E-machines. the E-mahcines were the fastest computers there @ work...but oddly they all fried on me. I work with kids, as it is a Boys & Girls Club, but having only the e-machines FRY on me makes me wonder if the do suck. All the Dells have been fine, and they arrived way before the E-machines.
This is just my opinion on e-machines, but if I were you i'd seriously consider HP. Hope this helps.

distinctive fashions from the comparable producer would be distinctive on many stages, as a results of fact the inventory areas would be distinctive from gadget to gadget, distinctive manufacturers of the CPU, RAM, HDD, Video Card, Sound Card, and so on. some will run distinctive working structures. it is unlike as quickly as you have considered one emachine, you have considered all of them! out of your description of what he will use the pc for the min specs could probable be around: 1GHz CPU, 512 (256 does not additionally be too undesirable) of RAM, 40 GB HDD, integrated video, and Vista is okay (even with the certainty that a soreness for brand spanking new workstation customers). something previous that's a waste in my common opinion if the pc would be used for records superhighway seek and digital mail in elementary terms. To be advantageous make valuable the workstation has strategies for improve approximately two times the quantities of the inventory areas. Your advantageous, I gave my mum my previous workstation (could no longer locate the money for to purchase her a sparkling one).

I am using one. I do not use it for any professional type of work.
I only had to add memory from a BB store.
The price was fine.

My friend used one and liked it. I don't think they are made now.

It was only for writing emails...nothing else. She got one at Radio Shack, but I really don't think they still make or have service for them. She paid Yahoo for the connection for email.
