Unless you are loaded, save your money to the last penny.
Learn to live with the absolute minimum.
Biggest investment when you move will be rent/lease money---until you actually find a place, you have no idea what the costs will be---it may, or may not, include utilities, which can be huge. Parking fees, service fees, taxes, just about anything you can name might come up as a monthly or annual expense.
If you're going on your own, it's very important to get organized and prioritized, and shelter is #1 on your list.
Once that is found and budgeted, then your car/transportation expenses, then your school expenses (if any), then (which is usually the major expense) your food and supplies, and laundry expenses.
After all these things are paid for, budgeted, paid for, THEN is the time to get stuff (furniture, tv, stereo, decor, bedding, towels, dishes, cookware, books, cosmetics, dvd's, cd's, and more clothes if necessary).
Always, do first things first---it makes no sense to have plenty of supplies boxed up if there is no where to live with them, or plenty of clothes/towels/sheets bought if you can't afford the laundromat each month.
Just about everything you'll need is available at the Goodwill Stores, at huge discounts.
But there are probably plenty of items you'll need right there at home already---look in the basement and attic and garage. Ask your siblings and parents for stuff they don't need anymore.

You are going to basically need everything, take a look around home and see and make a list
Mops, brooms, cleaning supplies, microwave (don't think you are going to want to cook at first) TV, furniture (chairs, table, couch, bed dressers, nightstands, etc check the local salvation army, or people getting rid of things, Sheets, towels, Fridge (if not supplied in apartment) lamps, garbage cans, utensils, dishes, vacume, coffee pot, clock, the list really never ends. Take note of what you use at home and go from there

Anissa D is right but I would add cookware and dishes, dishtowels. Depends on what you are doing. Are you a cook or are you planning to eat out.
How about cleaning hardware--broom and dustpan. Vacuum cleaner , toilet brush and that sort of thing?

pots and pans, dishes, utensils, cooking utensils, linens, towels, bedding, any decor you may want, you can also put furniture on layaway 6 months prior to moving so its paid for and ready to go on your move in date, remember, kitchen and bathroom stuff is as important as bedroom stuff, the living room you can do last!
