yes. its one of the basic parts of a resume`. your objective is to tell what position you're applying for, and a brieif description of your aim , how u'll benefit the company.

I depends on the kind of job you're seeking. I used to have an objective, however I have found a good cover letter negates the need for an objective in the resume. Interestingly enough, once I removed the objective, I received a better response to my resume...
If you want an objective, it needs to be short, sweet and to the point. Focus on not only what you want to achieve, but how you can help them... personal growth is always fun too!
