People please tell me republicans aren't really this stupid.I just saw a question asked where people said they support the troops but don't support the war and all the disagrees astounded me.Then when people said the only way to support the troops is to support the war, a bunch of agrees. So in other words according to a republican you have to sell out your moral values about war and killing of civilians and troops and support this war or else you aren't supporting the troops?

Hmmm lets see,my best friend was in the war.Sent him letters all the time let him know how things were going at home, kept him updated on local news.Sent him jokes shared some laughs with him, sent anythhing he needed that was allowed to be sent over seas.always offered encouraging words and never said anything negative about what he was doing there. How is that not supporting the troops in the field? By the way,he died in the war and left behind a wife and kids who are struggling, wheres Bush to help them?

guess us "unpatriotic" people will have to pick up the pieces and help these struggling widows and their kids since the government and their supporters are good at talking up support but being unwilling to have to be the ones to give it.

With all due respect jaree i never said you guys randomly kill civilians on purpose. As far as using that guilty trip thing of saying "well if you don't agree with the war its ok we are fighting for you to have that freedom to make that comment".Lets be real here,no you're not.Iraq was not a threat to us losing our freedoms.Iraq wasn't going to come war with us and take our country and turn it into a dictatorship. If we never went to Iraq we wouldn't have lost any of our freedoms so no,you are not fighting for our freedoms.Thats what your superiors tell you sure because they want you hearts in it but you are fighting for oil control and to fix the Bush legacy of not getting the job done when Bush senior failed to get Saddam.Troops fought for our freedoms in the revolutionary war and World war 2 cause hitler was coming for us after europe. Now every military conflict we throw around that fighting for our freedoms so loosely even if realistically the conflict is for other agendas

Before you get whipped in a frenzy at my last comment let me clarify saying troops aren't fighting for our freedoms isn't come kind of knock at the troops, its the reality of the situation and is why i am strongly against you guys giving your lives for this cause.I think war should only be used when our freedoms are truly at stake like another country is planning to take us over or wipe us out with WMD and Iraq wasn't a threat for either.North korea is more of a WMD threat and they were very open about the fact they were making those bombs yet we went to Iraq,if we were truly going after our biggest threat to our freedom and safety rather then oil North Korea would have been a much higher priority then Iraq.

psycho bug stop using the 911 attacks to justify the Iraq war,Afghan yes not Iraq.justifying the Iraq war as some kind of answer to 911 would be like attacking England or Japan and saying it was for those who died on 911.Iraq had nothing to do with 911,Saddam was an enemy of Al Queda and viewed their extremist views and agendas as a threat to his own leadership.Even when the war was starting he warned his people not to trust these foreign fighters who come under the guise of being freedom fighters. All video of his meetings with his cabinet while he was in power showed he was no friend of Al Queda or its affiliated groups and viewed them as an extremist group who would take him out if they got the chance.Al Queda often called him a tyrant against Islam and tried to encourage Iraqis to rise up against him probably even more so then the US used to.

Dearie, I too am opposed to this war. I am a Gulf War Veteran. Do I support this war? NO! Do I support the soldiers of any of our services? Until my dying day! Military members take an oath before they are true military members. It is an oath they cannot take back, no matter who comes into office, or how bad it gets. I am a Democrat, however, I know many Republicans who do not agree with Bush or the way this war is going or being waged. At this time this is not a Republican or a Democrat or a Libertarian subject. What it is is a United States War that the people of the United States have had enough of!
While it is true that most all of the Senate and House of the then in office, and alot of voters believed Mr. Bush when he said that there was IMMINENT DANGER from IRAQ many of us believed him..We believed a President would not lie about such an Important Thing. ...WE WERE ALL WRONG!!
Honey, I am saying, this wasn't a Democrat/Republican/Libertarian thing. Although I would like the Republicans gone, they are not alone to blame for the war! You must, I am afraid, look to the White House and those affiliated with it. And I am sorry about your friend.

From their point of view, if you don't support the war, you don't support the troops, because, anything you do or say against the war, makes it harder for the troops to do their job.

Their theory is that the enemy can see, in the news etc., how many people don't support the war, and can use that to bring undecided Iraquis to their side, or to get a stronger commitment from Iraquis who might not be completely decided if they should really be supporting their side.

On the other hand, it's hard for those who don't support the war to know what to do to support the troops while hoping to get us out.

Over the long run the best solution might be to make it unconstitutional for presidents to get us involved in foreign adventures except under the leadership of the UN. Our troops should have as their main purpose the defense of our own country against foreign invasions.

By the way, the mission statement of the Veterans Administration is a direct quote from Abraham Lincoln: To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan.

I am writing to you as a Marine who has deployed twice to Iraq, lost friends, and NEVER killed a civillian. The statement that we randomly kill civillians, is absolutely wrong. Sometimes, rarely, the wrong people are killed, however, Iraqis kill more Iraqi's than we ever have. There are bombings by Iraqis against Iraqi's everyday. To blame these deaths on the troops is not supporting us. I lived and worked with the Iraqi army for 7 months, we were attacked more often, and lost more soldiers than the all US unit accross the river. We took mortar rounds almost every day, they are killing themselves!! Almost all Iraqis I met and talked with, were happy for the US there, they are now free to say what they want, where doing that before they would get killed by their own government. I have taken medical supplies to families that could not afford it, and would never have gotten it were is not for our being there. How can you be against such things? The majority of the people I work with believe in what we do. We fight and die every day. We do it because we believe in what we are doing. If you disagree with us, that is fine......we fight and die to give you that right to say and think whatever you want, I would have it no other way. I am sorry to hear your friend died.......I lost 3 of my Marines in a 7 month period. They died doing what they knew was right. As far as struggling families......I know it is not financially, but emotionally I am sure there are pains. I have also served as a Casualty assistance officer.........being the one to tell the family of a death.......Our job doing that is to be there for the family until they no longer need assistance.....however long that is. There is a support system in place. Could it be better? Absolutely. Financially, families of a fallen service member receive 500,000 dollars. Does that make up for the loss of a loved one.....nope, but it will pay their bills if they take care of their money. I also say thankyou for being a friend and keeping in touch with your servicemember.

First off you have Way too much on here, by the time I read it all, the question will be closed. As a republican I support the troops because I am a veteran and I did support the war but now it has divided our country so bad I wonder even if we won would Americans even care.

He is no where.

Republicans don't support the troops at all! They only support the war. That's only because of corporate welfare! Republicans care less about the troops. If they did they would not be cutting VA hospitals by $100 BILLION in 2006 while giving tax cuts to the rich, in 5 years it would seem that they could have provided body armor and armored humvee's to the troops, they tried cutting combat pay, they cut widow's benefits in 1/2.

By the way, the VA is currently treating 105,000 Iraqi vets with 100 billion less that they would have had.

Bush does not support the troops, and many Republicans, especially those who say such idiot remarks like you have to support the war to support the troops, when they only support the war really! The troops sounds so good. If only their actions were consistent with their attack on peoples constitutional rights of free speech and being able to disagree with an administration who is building 600 Concentration camps for all you nice people!

I am a republican and do believe you can support the troops and not the (though I do). So your premise about all us Republicans is flawed from the start. I to have had a son there for 4 combat tours and was wounded and is now heading back for his 5th and 6th tour and possibly 7th. We have lost loved ones that died in the conflict to, so you aren't the only one. The comfort to his wife and kids I would think would come from friends and family, ours do, and knowing that he volunteered for this and wasn't drafted and sent. Obviously you miss the point that is what he did. The support from the government will be from his GI life insurance, what are you expecting a personal I'm sorry From the President? What makes you so special? We don't, our loved ones were lost doing what they wanted to do! Get over dude and go comfort this poor lady and her kids!

This is nothing but Republican propaganda. They haven't a clue how to comprehend the obvious regarding our troops and "Georges" war!
Let me explain the simplicity of the above that has so stumped the Republicans.
My brother was sent to Vietnam, did I support the war-NO.
Did I support my brother-YES.
My Nephew was sent to Iraq, did I support the war-NO.
Did I support my nephew-YES
Neither my brother nor my nephew ASKED to go to war they were "sent" as so were our troops in Iraq.
What is so darn difficult to understand with this simple simon answer?
The Right is just doing their usual "spin."
Their Patriotism is so hypocritical, it shows in their "bumper stickers."
Explain, why anyone who LIVES in America would have the need to display"I'm proud to be an American?" Wouldn't that message be more appropriate if you were driving in a foreign country??
Call me naive, but I thought that was given, unless you disagree with a Republican, and then you are
a terrorist lover and hate America. . .

If Democrats hadn't protested the war (when Saddam was blatantly violating every UN sanction) from even before we whent in, just because they hate Republicans so much. The terrorist wouldn't have been emboldened to fight the troops, knowing America was not united. In the mafia they have a tradition of kissing a guy on the cheek before they put a bullet in his head. Wile your support for a single soldier is admirable , its not supporing the troops. As for Bush helping each soldier, that is not the job of the President. Thats the Job of the judicial process.

You should be very proud of your friend, and I'm sure you are. Hard to follow the gist of your question though. Anyone who would like to find information on how we can support the families of the brave soldiers who perished can log onto www.hannity.com. There is a huge effort there to help those closely affected. Good luck.
