That's a really weird symptom. It could be a minor anxiety disorder. Do you feel blood rushing when you attempt to retract the foreskin? Does your breathing rate increase? If these accompany the weird uncomfortable feelings than it might be a mental issue over a physical problem with your foreskin (and you make it sound like there's nothing physically wrong with your foreskin).

There are a few things you could try. Just before and when you begin to retract your foreskin, try taking slow and deep breaths. Feel each breath and feel your blood going throughout your body. Try to calm and slow down those sensations. Then begin to retract while maintaining this. Retract slowly and gently, all the while focusing on the breathing and heart rate. This should help.

If that doesn't work, try the same thing except don't look at your penis while you do it. Close your eyes and just feel it retract and open your eyes when you feel it's all the way back. And if that doesn't work, take a deep breath and try to pull back quickly but gently (unless it hurts, in which you must stop promptly).

Since it's mostly a mental thing and a nervous/anxiety issue, there isn't much else you could try. What might help is asking someone else (like your girlfriend) to retract it for you. Then there isn't the anticipation, as you don't precisely know when she's going to do it.

Lastly, ignore any comments about circumcision. That won't solve your problem and it'll just be painful and useless. If you do have a tight foreskin (a condition called phimosis) there are many other treatments (see links 1, 2). Of course being able to fully retract your foreskin is key to keeping it clean underneathe (link 3) as well as contributing to sexual pleasure (links 4, 5, 6). Good luck with anything you try, your problem shouldn't be difficult to treat.

In some boys the flap of skin on the underside of the penis keeps the foreskin well-applied to the head of the penis making this retraction difficult. As you go through puberty it is likely that this flap of skin known as the frenum will stretch and allow retraction, but occasionally some boys will need either circumcision or an operation called a dorsal slit to make the foreskin more mobile. Occasionally, a boy might continue to have a tight foreskin which won't retract right into adult life - a condition known as phimosis.

Why not mention this to your parents, and get into the doctor. It's always better to get it looked into than to sit around worrying about it.

At this age, it may be phimosis. This is one of the most over-diagnosed and mis-diagnosed problems in the world, but in an adult it's easy to diagnose. Phimosis is usually an iatrogenic problem - meaning that it's usually caused by damage done by a caregiver in infancy or early childhood. Most often it's caused by overzealous attempts to retract and clean under the foreskin, which is a structure that should never be retracted in childhood. Sadly, many doctors, unschooled in childhood penile development, advise parents to clean a child's foreskin as if it's an adult's - HUGE mistake that leads to all sorts of problems, including the chronic infections that lead many parents of intact sons to get them circumcised. The whole situation, especially in the US, is a mess. Usually phimosis is treated with stretching exercises combined with steroid cream application. The steroid cream requires a prescription. If it doesn't respond to the above treatment, preputioplasty is sometimes recommended, although many men prefer to leave it alone. Many men lead perfectly healthy and happy lives with phimosis - it's not going to affect a man's sex life or his ability to father children. One thing to be wary of - never accept circumcision as a treatment for phimosis: it does way more harm than good.

Try in the shower. The warm water will help to relax the tissue and hopefully make it easier.

If you continue to have this problem you may want to consider a circumcision. Not for looks but it is not good if you have a hard time pulling the foreskin back. It may lead to infection (especially when sexually active). By not being able to pull the foreskin back you run the risk of having an STD and not being aware of it the same way someone with more flexible foreskin/no foreskin would. Take this up with your Md.

You do NOT need to be circumcised -- that is utter nonsense. Drinking is illegal. You seem to have a psychological block. Have you been taught that sex/masturbation is evil or sinful or dirty?

Lots of guys still can't retract at 16, and that's normal, but your problem seems to be an aversion to touching yourself. Do you have an adult friend you are comfortable with talking to about this? -- not a religious zealot!

You need to start pulling it back for washing, or you can get a painful infection. But at 16 you should be masturbating, too. I really think you need to talk this out with a non-judgemental adult who can help you understand why you don't like to touch your penis. This is YOUR body, and touching it anywhere is natural and normal and should not make you queasy.

Good luck!

I think your problem is psychological rather than physical. Make pulling back your foreskin part of your daily routine and you should be able to get over this. Sometimes, try keeping the glans exposed all the time. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I would go see your doctor and have it checked.. He may recommend a circumcision or do further testing to see if it is something else. Whatever you do call your Dr. right away. Good Luck and i hope it isn't to serious!

You might have phimosis. Go see your doctor (urologist). He might recommend a circumcision in order to correct the abnormality.
