Having worked at 2 companies that had their hey days in making great money, passing out bonuses, and then eventually taking a nose dive and then closing, I have learned that you really do need to have AT LEAST 6 months of savings. This is not to say that I do as of yet, but I am working towards that.
I feel that when you have budgeted your money to the point where there is no worry about it at all, it then frees your mind to focus on what really is important. Life is too short to worry about money and all the chaos surrounding the perceived scarcity around it.
We never have a money problem, just a problem in manging it.

No...I hope I'd get the one after that though.
I do have money in the bank and a credit limit plus a credit card. That along with the fact that I have loads of food on my canned shelves and a pack of stuff in the freezer would allow me to deal with things.

That did happen to me. It kind of knocked me back a bit, but what I got instead was amazing- my pregnancy made me quit working since I kept passing out and couldn't handle the journey there or back any more, but having my daughter more than made up for it.
