They are putting themselves in a position to be a winner. They now have the right manager in place and they are willing to go after free agents such as Soriano. It is only a matter of time and the Cubs will deliver to Chicago and their fans something they richly deserve, a championship.

As one baseball fan to another, You need a New owner, president of finances and new manager and better pitching and couple more defensive players.
When and if this ever alll happens you will be on the right path for a chance at the Championship.
Good luck we have all been ed Sox and cubs fans for a long time. Red Sox have won, the White Sox have done it , now maybe the Cubs can do the same.
Everyone go to church more would not hurt either.
have some holy water taken to the Dugout and sprinkle it over the dugout, for good blessings to come from the players in that dugout, it couln't hurt.

Just a comment on the "when Prior and Wood get healthy" comment someone left. That might've been the answer for a couple of years, but I think the Cubs took a step in the right direction this year when they prepared NOT to have those two pitching. They bolstered their rotation---not with all-stars, but with guys that at least won't get hurt and can eat some innings.
The Cardinals were barely above .500 last year and won it all. As a die-hard Cubs fan, anything's possible :)

The Cubs are a national treasure because they lose. If the owners are smart, they'll keep it that way. As soon as the team wins the World Series, all those fans from far, far away will start to fade.
So, if they trade their very best player for a washed-up guy, and keep doing things like that then their investment will grow. Imagine a hundred years from now, after they've had 4 game 7 playoff losses, a half-dozen years like 1969, and a whole lot of teams that look good on paper but don't win. . .they will be more immortal than Babe Ruth.
But, if they get sensible, they could win in 2 years or so. But that means they lose, because their broad-based fan-ship will start to dwindle.
