the spurs will be getting a 9-day rest before the frist game of the nba finals while the cavs and the pistons continue to go at it so they would remain well-oiled....so i was wondering, is having a long rest like that before the nba finals an advantage or a disadvantage????

theres no definite answer here, ive seen it work in the favor the team and work against it. with a veteran team like the spurs i dont see it affecting them, they might look rusty for the first couple minutes but no big deal.

first of all... it's only a 7 day rest...(thursday-wednesday)

Next, it doesn' matter. The Spurs are better than both teams and rest or rust would only affect a team for the first half of the first game.

If the Spurs lose any games in the NBA Finals, it'll be at home. Detroit and Cleveland could merge franchises, take the 12 best players of both teams combined, cancel the rest of the Leastern Conference Finals and practice for a week with the newly assembled team and they would still win no more than 2 games against the Spurs.

..let me pick the team for you.

PF Rasheed Wallace
SF LeBron James
C Zydrunas Ilgauskas
SG Richard Hamilton
PG Chauncey Billups

bench.....
pf/c Chris Webber
pf Drew Gooden
pf/sf Anderson Varejao
pg/sg Daniel Gibson
pf/sf Antonio McDyess
sf Tayshaun Prince
sf/pf Jason Maxiell
pg/sg Lindsey Hunter
sg/sf Larry Hughes
sf Donyell Marshall

Now... upsets do happen and it could happen here, but it more than likely won't.

The Spurs beat Cleveland in 5 games. They'll sweep Detroit if the Pistons were to win the Leastern Conference.

Depends on who you are talking about, but the majority of the team will be rested. Expect Parker and Duncan to be rested, although Duncan might start with what seems like a little bit of rust. Just a minute on court will do him good.

They'll be both. The rest should help them in the long run, but I expect they'll start slow in game 1. Hopefully they get into rhythm quickly.
