No it is not legal without their permission.

This can actually get you put in jail and is called "wardriving" officially.

Sometime yes and sometimes no. This is known as a WiFi hotspot. If the access is provided with the knowledge on the providers part that anyone can log in and share a network connection, it is probably legal. Many business, mostly restaurants proved free net access this way and advertise it.

If the hotspot is on your neighbor's router, and you don't have his permission to use it. it iw not legal. Even if you do have his permission, his network provider may dissagree.

Let me put it this way, recently a man was arrested for sitting in his car accessing an open access point from a local coffee house! Under current US Fedral regulations accessing any network without permission is a fellony. So keep a lawyer handy if you want to use a network you haven't been invited to use.
The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (18 U.S.C. Sec. 1030 et seq.), that prohibits the intentional access to a computer without authorization.

Also dont forget that if you connect to them,, they are connected to YOU!!! How much information do you want to give to an unknown system! Banking data, credit card data, personal data...its up to you.

Just use ones you own or that you should use.. Your safer, there isn't any questions, and you can sleep better.

in case you have a nic card already put in on your laptop try to be waiting to hook up with an ethernet to instant adapter, if the lan connection is a pci card the clarification your instant pci adapter isn't setting up would be a source problem, attempt uninstalling the exisiting card and installation the adapter and notice if it somewhat works, all you certainly desire is to tutor on domicile windows instant networking and installation the motive force for the instant adapter, yet while it does not comprehend the adapter as being there then the fallback is to apply an ethernet bridge adapter.

no it is not legal to connect to someone elses network, even if there is no security enabled it is still illegal. two people were in court near me a couple of weeks ago for using someone elses network and they got hefty fines, just right too i think, some people are happy to PAY for thier internet service while others just steal it from them,

As long as you are not hacking, I don't think so. The people you are using the internet from will probably never know, since they don't know enough to put a password on it. The only way they would find out is if they logged onto the router and checked the logs, but it sounds like they probably wouldn't. lol :P

If you do not have to bypass security, and you are not using it for illegal purposes (kiddie porn, warez, spam, etc) then there is nothing wrong with it.
