Without a doubt, the terrorists attacks of 9/11. Never in my lifetime did I think, anything as devastating could happen in America. I really believed that we were invincible. That such things only happened in far off places. I'm a child of the 60s, and still remember, the Vietnam War, so War, is nothing new to me. You could read about it in just about every news paper, and if you had a television watch it, on the evening, or nightly news, so I'm quite familiar, with the impact of war. Nevertheless, I never thought it could happen on American soil. 9/11, changed that. I now know, that anything is possible, and have learned to not only value life, but to take nothing for granted.

The fall of the WTC in NY.

When those towers were hit and fell, the world was turned inside out. The ramifications were felt world wide. War, more death, murder of innocents like Daniel Pearl the reporter and innocent Iraqis and Afghans. U.S. economy goes to pot, other countries hate us even more than they did before.

In addition to the people that died in the towers and helping to rescue those stuck in the mess, there is the issue of the air quality around NY. Esquire magazine did a piece on a bike messengers bag and its contents. The owner of the bag was caught in the dust and debris that resulted in the towers crashing. He found the bag in a plastic garbage bag at the bottom of his closet several years later. There was still so much contamination. Heavy metals(lead for example), were all over it. So many bad things blew thru the air that day that people on the easter seaboard will still be getting sick for years to come.

Many more people died in other "disasters", but for over all outcome, the most devastating should be 9-11.

I would have to say Hurricane Katrina because that was really bad and it showed that bad side of many people. It just made the Bush administration look worse, and it showed the lack of leadership in the country except for the coast guard. New Orleans was thrown, basically to the dogs, as pillaging and looting and deaths accumulated because of the lack of security and the slow progress of reconstruction. That had showed a terrible side of America and many people died who didn't have to.

Another terrible disaster was of course Septermber 11, 2001. Thousands died on that one day and people are still dieing now from the effects whether it be direct or indirect.

I think the tsunami was the worst that anyone will see in a long time. I mean entire Islands wiped clean? That is biblical disaster. When I saw that on TV I couldt believe it. I had a pen pal in India that I talked to on yahoo for 4 years and since that tsunami hit I havet spoken to him since. But really gets me is those people that did survive, rebuilt their house right back on the beach! WTF?

It depends on which country you're talking about.

For the United States, it's Thailand.

For Indonesia, it's the tsunami.

For Thailand, it's the tsunami.

And the list goes on and on and on.
