Do not buy them, do not carry them, do not have them in your house or at your job. That should help.

I started smoking when I was 21. I smoked for more than 10 years. I tried to quit so many times I can't count.

Cold turkey is the best way. But to do that succesfully you have to stay away from your triggers. Don't go out drinking. Chew something when on your laptop.

I never could stay quit for very long. Most of the time I only lasted a day or two and I would go nuts and cheat.

Finally I wanted to start a family and quit to get pregnant. I was doing pretty well, but then got crazy and bought a pack. I nearly puked all over the place from the first drag. I was pregnant and smoking made me soooooo sick. I think quitting first helped. I couldn't stand the smell the entire pregnancy and by the time I had my daughter I was over the worst part of the cravings. I haven't smoked in 4 1/2 years but that's because I never want to have to try to quit again. The first few weeks and months are hell. At least they were for me.

Don't recommend you get pregnant to try and quit, but cold turkey is about the only way. You have to want to quit with all your heart. Otherwise the gum won't work, the patches won't work...nothing will.

You have to reallllly want to quit. (of course, it making you sick to your stomach doesn't hurt either) ;)

I smoked for 36 years.... when a doctor told me I now have a terminal lung disease, it was rather easy to give them up COLD TURKEY---(NOT)... but I DID give them up and haven't had a cigarette or even a drag off one in over 6 MONTHS... NOR do I WANT one. I didn't take drugs or patches or fake cigarettes or any of that crap... what I DID was---first off STOPPED BUYING THEM and then when I CRAVED one, I grabbed an orange, peeled it, separated it and ate every little piece. (naval oranges are the best) ... I didn't gain weight because oranges are not fattening and they gave me something to do with my hands and mouth that lasted as LONG as smoking a cigarette would have each time. Gradually I cut my orange consumption down and was able to go ALL day without an orange....the big thing with quitting smoking is that you HAVE to have a substitute thing for your hands and mouth...if not, NOTHING you try will be successful. Oh and according to my doctor, my lung problem was not CAUSED by smoking---it was a hereditary thing that wasn't HELPED by the smoking but was not CAUSED by it...

i had to act like i was on an airplane. we can all stop smoking when it is against the law to do so. ppl who smoke can fly for 32 hours, with connections and never get the chance to light up. so...trick yourself into thinking it is against policy and the law.
