The diagram represents a chemical cell at 298 K. When the switch is closed, electrons flow from

Al(s) to Ni(s)
Ni(s) to Al(s)
Al3+(aq) to Ni2+(aq)
Ni2+(aq) to Al3+(aq)

Given the reaction for the nickel-cadmium battery:
2NiO2 + Cd + 2H2O --> 2Ni(OH)2 + Cd(OH)2
Which species is oxidized during the discharge of the battery?

Ni 3+
Ni 2+
Cd
Cd2+

Your url did not open. However, it seems obvious that electrons flow over the external circuit from Al(s) to Ni(s).

In the Ni/Cd battery, Cd(s) is oxidized to Cd(OH)2 during the discharge, with electrons flowing over the external circuit to NiO2.
