The tempurature seems to being going down slightly. It rained here so the house is really hot now. The tank is in the shade. No direct sun light ever. I did a water change yesturday (Wedn) so I'm not doing it again till Saturday.

All goldfish are temperate fish found in cool streams, lakes, and ponds throughout Asia and part of eastern Europe, though all the specimens found in the hobby today are captive bred. Goldfish can be easy to care for, however, they do require some care. Given proper care and a good, healthy environment, goldfish can live nearly 50 years!

To keep a goldfish healthy, remember to provide them with plenty of clean, cool water.

Your goldifsh's temperature should never rise above 73° Fahrenheit, and ideally should remain between 65° and 68.

This temperature is a little warm for goldfish, but they should be fine in it. They can survive any temperature 50-77 degrees Fahrenheit or 10-25 degrees Celsius. As a goldfish owner I keep my tank at 72 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 degrees Celsius. To keep it cooler I would keep the tank in shade and maybe have a few fans running.

All goldfish need is a tank with room temperature water. As long as you don't keep them in a house that has no heat during the winter and one with out A/C in the summer.

People saying goldfish do not need heaters are very wrong....or they are only thinking tropical areas. If you live in an area that gets below freezing and your home is cold (mine was cold enough last week that a half glass of water in the kitchen was frozen over night)....so YES, heater in tank is needed. Just because they might survive does not mean that is an acceptable quality of life, it stresses them.

That's not a problem at all for goldfish. They do very best about 8-10 degrees cooler, but can live at that temperature quite well. Don;t be fooled by the label coldwater fish and some sites that say they can't handle temperatures over the low 70's. They can certainly handle it, just might not prefer it. Many, many breeders use outdoor ponds that routinely maintain temperatures even over yours.

As long as it's not frozen or boiling, goldfish can live through almost anything. I've seen them in horse troughs year-round, in areas where it definitely frosts over in winter, and gets easily into the 90's in summer.

I have several goldfish in my "tropical" tank now...the thermostat is set to about the same temp, and they seem to be doing fine.

If you want to lower the temp (for example if it gets really hot this summer), you can put some ice in a ziploc bag, and drop the bag in the tank. That'll cool it off without adding more (potentially chlorinated) water to the tank.

Your water temp is to high, it should be at70* no higher than 74*, goldfish don't need a heater in their tank! You can do a 25% water change to help drop temp! Also might want to think about moving your tank to the coolest spot in your home!

73 degrees is good. while they can withstand higher temps in the 80's--do remember that warmer water breeds bacteria much more quickly--which in turn will probably kill your gold fish. Put a few ice cubes--just enough to cool ti slightly and slowly--let your tank thermometer be your guide--no quick drops in temp.
