Ken B - who said I'm 'that into grief'? What a strange thing to say - I'm hoping they find their daughter, that's all.

I agree that the children shouldn't have been left, but that still doesn't justify the nastiness considering what's happened.
The abductor is the real baddie in this, not the McCanns.

ddlmu - no I haven't and would never leave my child alone, and I think that's a small minded thing to say. I feel compassion for them, that doesn't mean I agree with leaving children alone, as I said earlier.

Well having read most of the answers, I can only conclude that you are a load of sad twisted individuals with no compassion. Let's hope nothing awful happens to you or yours eh.

i was logging on to ask the same question. before i answered i read some of the reply,s and to put it mildly i am horrified by the way people are treating the mccann family. everyone is entitled to their opinion and although i do not agree, maybe they shouldn,t have left their children alone, but i think they are now paying the ultimate price for that one mistake. but most people on here are critisizing them for their campaign & media coverage that they are recieving. this family ( immediate and extented ) have decided that they are going to do everything in their power to bring madeleine back. everyone points out that madeleine isn,t the only child to go missing, hundreds even thousands go missing all over the world, but this family have decided that they were not going to go off back home and sit and wait for the phone to ring, and in between break down and sob uncontrolably when giving their TV interview. i for one think that they have been amazing througout this whole ordeal and when madeleine is returned to them it will be partlly due to their efforts. when you see the amount of freinds who have rallied around them at this difficult time, not just offering moral support but huge financial incentives to the campagn i find it hard to believe that this couple have a bad bone in their body. unlike some who anweryour question. what we must remmember is that it is a childs life that we are all on here bitching and gossiping about, and i know that if it were me i would do everything possible for the safe return of my child, and i doubt any of those who critise would refuse the press coverage, private jet or donations if it were their child that had been abducted. i just hope and pray every day for madeleine,s safe return.

Here's a simple answer.
In the period since Maddie disappeared, about 800 other children have gone missing in the UK alone.
The media won't do their jobs and ask the hard questions, because the truth doesn't sell newspapers. Photo-ops in exotic locations do.
If everybody was unanimous in that what the McCanns did was wreckless and negligent, maybe that message would have gotten across to one of the other parents of missing children in the last month. Instead, they have heard the mantra that what the McCanns did is perfectly acceptable. And there are some people who think that if it's alright for the McCanns, who are held up by the media and their defenders as perfect people, then it's OK if they leave their kids alone, too.
I encountered such a parent the other day when I was at the DIY store. A beautiful little girl of about 3 was left alone by the door while her mother shopped. I noticed her as I was leaving. She looked lost and bewildered. I asked her where her Mummy was, and she said she didn't know. I took her by the hand. The child went with me without question - so trusting; probably too young to have grasped the importance of not going off with strangers. I took her to the information desk where they paged the mother.
TEN MINUTES later, the woman appears. At first, she didn't even acknowledge the child. What did she do? She paid for her stuff. I'm standing there looking at her, thinking "WTF?". I asked if this was her little girl. She gave the kid a look as if to say "I told you to wait next to the door!". She said, "Yeah, she's mine". Not "thank you" or anything. If I felt like teaching the mother a lesson, I could have easily taken that kid out to my car and down to the police station. At least I could have said, "You know, leaving a cute little kid like this by the exit door when you're at the back of the store and the tills and displays are in the way and you can't see her is asking for trouble". I regret not saying it, but it did cross my mind that if I did, somebody would say, "Oh, so it's alright for rich, white Kate McCann, but it's not OK for a working class black person?". And you know somebody would have said that.
Alright, so my answer is not that simple after all. What I mean to say is get the message across that any parent who leaves their young children unattended is wrong. Not just the McCanns, but including them.

Perhaps because the press aren't asking awkward questions so there's a sense of things being covered up. In other cases there are often quite probing questions raised about parents - even when there's no suggestion of negligence as there is in this case. I'm sure the awkward questions will come though, once the photo-opportunities and
manufactured publicity run out of steam. The police will have to ask some nasty questions - its their job. And the McCann family have set out to make everyone feel involved but they can't make everyone feel good about the parents.

Because we can see what they will not own up to - it is WRONG to leave 3 children under the age of 4 alone - even if only for half an hour (and I don't believe it was only for that amount of time). It then compounds the wrong, when rather than say - yep, we were selfish, we messed up, the parents then seek to say it was a normal thing to do that thousands of other parents would have done. NO responsible parent would have acted in that way, and to then seek to justify it sticks in the craw of those of us out there who know the proper way to behave. I'm sorry if you think that means we are saying nasty things - but sometimes the truth has to be said and the truth hurts. How do you persuade the thousand sof others that Gerry McCann believes exist that you do not behave in this way, because otherwise your child may suffer, if you do not say it is WRONG. It is not that they should have realised an abductor was out there - but they should have been mindful of fire, sudden illness, cot death, carbon monoxide poisoning, a child waking up and wandering off outside - maybe into the pool, a child waking up with a nightmare and being alone in a strange enviroment - a whole host of reasons why they should not be left alone. I rather suspect that those who object to this being pointed out do so because theyhave themselves failed as parents in this way before.

I would never dream of leaving my daughter alone in the garden never mind a hotel room in a foreign country. Holidays are supposed to be family time when you have kids. The McCanns are professional people, what would be said if the parent was a single parent!!! I don't think the media would be so kind, do you? The McCanns will have this on them til the day they die, lets just pray that Maddie is found so they can have closure, one way or another.

Lets face it. people will make their own minds up about them and are entitled to their own opinions. I am parent and wouldn't even leave my 13 yr old in a cottage in Cornwall by himself. You never ever know what can happen. And they had child minding facilities available to them, but did not use this facility. I pray that little girl is found safe and well, but if i were going through such a traumatic time, the last thing i would be doing is jetting off and leaving my other 2 children. I would wrap them in cotton wool and not let them out of my sight. We all know what scumbags there are out there, and what lenient sentences they get, so why take such a huge chance. This was supposed to be a family holiday...........i thought that meant spending time with your children. It is a child friendly enough environment to take them out for a meal...................and between the apartment and where they were eating, there was a swimming pool as well. So even if 1 of the children had woken up, went outside, there was always a danger of the pool. I just don't get it. As for the scum out there that snatch children, there should be only one answer. the death penalty.

Quite agree the people or persons who have taken Madeleine are despicably. How ever her parents also have to take a share of the blame .
They decided to leave 3 babies on their own anything could of happened to the children . Never mind abduction a fire could of started one of the babies could of choked .
People say things against the McCann parents because they left babies alone. How hard is that to understand.
Babies can't take care of themselves that's why as a decent parent you can't leave them.
toietmoi* I am fully aware that a tragedy can effect any family . been through one myself . However some things are unavoidable and some like the McCanns actions are definitely avoidable.

There aren't many good things to say about them. What are we going to say? They are great parents losing their child like that. I'm so glad they visited the pope and are going jogging everyday. I have never seen so much grief in two people. They are so right to not hire those PIs to find Maddy. Come on. Be serious. If I spoke well of them I would sound a little strange to say the least. They have to do something good to have good things said about them surely?

Because they are money grabbing, limelight loving fools. How dare they make money on the back of their neglect and irresponsibility? Their daughter might be dead, but instead of staying with the two remaining kids, they went off to Rome, leaving their twins behind. They don't deserve to be parents. They deserve the remarks they've been getting and any sympathy that the UK people still have is with Madeleine and not with her mum or dad I think.

Simple answer..they go on a family holiday, but fail to include their kids in that holiday, ie, going out every night leaving very small children unattended, when it is a child friendly complex with child minding facilities....
I have not seen one plea from the parents, begging the scumbag who took Madeline to return her safely or leave her somewhere safe.., no tears, no emotion.. nothing.....
The jet set around getting emotional support and financial support, whilst leaving their other 2 babies to be looked after, im sorry, i am a mum an Auntie and a nursery nurse, and i would be too bloody scared to leave my other children...
I pray that Madeline is alive well and safe, but i also pray that her parents never ever put their children in a risky situation again...

hmmm sometimes i do think that we should not be allowed free speech.
i really do.
if ppl can be (and clearly are so abhorrently callous, verbally , sometimes) then a ruling government has to step in to say hang on a minute its not right to call someone a paki or fat or a black bastard or retard and that this uk government should make such verbal comments a crime where an adequate punishment has to be administered, ultimately for the good of this british society.
sadly as the british have become so bad, immoral infact.
action by the government has to be infiltrated err for example, and lets bring in the basics as labour liked it after tory rule.
Why are paedophiles given the choice of rehabilitation? when its widespread knowledge that 'they cannot be rehabilitated'
please someone of education and experience tell me why 3 convicted ps are placed for ' rehabilitation' opposite my local kids play park? why? and why are the local community not warned?
My point is that until ppl wake up and rag the brains, brutally of their MPs regarding childrens rights and new laws are passed against the rights of dare i say the word paedophiles then 'they are free' to take the children. instead of slating the MCcanns strive with them and get your MP to change the law to REALLY PROTECT CHILDREN. Eliminate the child abusers.
