That is certainly 1 important factor. Another is that some on the far left think it is morally wrong to control our own borders, It seems that they don't accept the concept of sovereignty. A 3rd is that there is a block of republicans who care more about cheap labor than they do about national security or the nation's future.

Latinos do vote and there are a lot of legal Latino voters, but there are bigger reasons why it is so difficult as you put it to get something done about border security and undocumented workers.

Number one, we need the workers. These are the people who are picking our fruit, washing our floors, mowing our lawns, and taking care of our children.

Number two, it is impossible to deport them all, because the cost is too great. And they are entitled under the Constitution, to leave their children behind.

Number three, it is impossible to "secure" the borders. Even if no traffic were allowed to cross the land border between the US and Mexico, which in itself is unrealistic, what about all of the airports? Did you know that about half of the undocumented aliens in this country got here simply by overstaying a valid tourist visa?

For these reasons, and others, everyone who has seriously studied this issue and is not simply playing politics with it, understands that we need to legalize the people who are here, instead of pretending that we can get rid of them.

I hope that isn't the case. If 40% voted for Bush & none of the other votes were for a 3rd party candidate that means 60% voted for DEMOCRATs. Those numbers would inforce the lie that the liberals are smarter than the conservatives.

Are you xenophobic RLP?

Latinos are the fastest growing minority. So? What's your point? Is it that minority populations are growing or do you have some irrational fear of Latinos?

Bush garnered 40% of the Latino vote. Those would be US citizens voting as Green Card holders _are prohibited by law_ from participating in Federal Elections (ie the President). So now you have a problem with Americans of Latino descent voting for your President? Huh? Only non-Latino Repubs count now?

As the Latino population has grown so has the rate of voting population. Um - duh. Of course, you mean to really say "Republicans of American-Latino heritage". Your implication that illegal Mexican immigration voting for Repubs...well, sounds like something Rove would try. Are you sure you want to take this stance?

In sum, your alarmist premise of more immigration means more votes is w/o basis and is wholly ignorant of US Federal Election Statutes.

Please research before you post...I feel embarrassed for you.

No.

Lation-Americans do not overwhelmingly support open borders and illegal immigration. They support it more than do some other ethnicities, but it is not a make-or-break issue for them - as much as the open-border crowds would like that to be the case.

The reason has nothing to do with voters, who overwhelmingly support simply enforcing existing laws. It has to do with special interests. The Republicans refuse to 'fix' the illegal immigration problem, because the special interests that help fund thier campaign are adicted to the cheap labor it provides. The Democrats salivate at the idea of creation millions of new minority voters who, they hope, will follow historical trends and mostly register as Democrats.

I have not heard anyone mention the fact that voting in our elections require NO proof of identification or proof of citizenship. The republican party has been trying to change the law so that only citizens of this country can vote but the Democrats keep fighting it .... Hmmmm, I wonder why? I think it is deplorable that we are not required to prove who we are when we vote, so the arguement that only legal hispanics vote is rubish.

The writer Luis Alberto Uprea already said it better than I could, he was there;
"I know that the idea of Mexican cops can send shivers down Americans' spines, but you need to know that these officers were warm, generous and professional. They agreed, for example, to take us to the open field where the immigrant vans dislodge their occupants, but only if I promised to run as fast as I could if the machine-gun boys started to drive in our direction. The cops liked me because I was born in Tijuana. They thought I could escape with my life while the narcos were busy shooting at my reporter friends.
As of 10:30 in the morning, the vans hadn't shown up yet. I asked my Beta companion where they were. "Oh, smugglers sleep late," he said. "They don't get to work till after 11." And, sure enough, after 11 o'clock, the vans began to appear.
Each one disgorged 27 to 30 people. This, in a desert devoid of anything but some adobe ruins and a tin shack where two abandoned immigrant girls who worked for the local water mafia were selling old plastic milk jugs full of hose water for 10 times the going rate. I asked my friend how many people came through this spot. "Well, I don't know what happens after six at night," he said. "But last Friday, between 11 and 5:30, we counted 137 van loads." Smugglers sleep late, but they work hard. They put in seven-day weeks, 137 van loads every day of the year." No matter how hard I tryed I could never write a better answer than Luis, hope you enjoyed his answer.

Is it asking too much to build a fence and secure our borders? I am disgusted at the government's complete lack of action. They don't have to deport anyone, all they have to do is enforce present laws and crack down on employers who hire illegal aliens. If they can't get jobs they will go home. Vote for Tom Tancredo, he will really DO something about this.

Of course it's the reason and just like you said it is shameful and a travesty. The only way to combat this is to vote AGAINST any politician from any party that supports this bill or anything even close to amnesty. If they vote for amnesty, I will vote AGAINST them in any race forever

I think you have racist tendencies, dearie.

Let's take a look at what your hero, Dubya supports:

What could be better for business than a workforce that toils for next to nothing, drives down wages for everyone else, can't protest or unionize, and then goes away when you're done with them?

Key to the Bush administration's approach to immigration reform is the controversial guest worker program, which preserves the flow of cheap, low-skilled labor to American businesses while limiting the potential costs to employers and taxpayers.

Under the program, there will be no children to educate (since guest workers won't be allowed to bring their families with them), no old-age entitlements to dole out (since workers will have to return home after working here for a maximum of six years), not even any health care to pay for (since these low-wage workers will be required to purchase health insurance).

It appears their goal is not to keep out immigrants, who are indispensable to the U.S. economy, but rather to control and exploit them more effectively. Why give them the opportunity to become citizens—or even permanent residents—if we can get what we need from them and then send them packing?

C'mon, Robin.

Tell me this isn't the truth. I challenge you.
