Cheesecake factory or PF Changs...might as well stay home and save the money!
Stay in the Union Square area, the best hotels and you can always find a few giving discounts. That area is the shopping district but it is also next to Chinatown and close to North Beach. It's also full of bars and restaurants. Fisherman's wharf area is nice to visit but there are few nice hotels, few discounts and way too many tourists.
Head to North Beach (it's not really a beach area, but you use to be able to see the beach from there...hence the name) for a good dinner and drink. It's full of people your age, and plenty others just having fun. Many of the restaurants are Italian as that is little Italy area, however you can find others too.

Depends on your budget. If (like me) you want to keep costs under control, Priceline a four-star hotel for Fisherman's Wharf / Embarcadero / Union Square (usually $110-180 a night). The Delancey Street Restaurant is really good with entrees from $12-25 and fantastic service (and walking distance from AT&T Park if you want to catch a Giants game). For drinks, I like the Buena Vista - a little touristy but fun and they're the guys who invented the Irish Coffee. Good stuff.

What's PF Chang? Anyways, how about Teatro Zinzanni? It's a show & 5 course dinner under a big tent located in Pier 29. They have special occasion arragements like leaving a gift on the table for your wife before you guys arrive, or having it delivered by a cast member. You can check it out here:
