how do adults learn best?

I've found experience to be the best teacher. However, everyone is different if you're referring to an academic sense. Some need lots of visuals, charts, diagrams, or graphs. Others prefer audiovisuals - DVDs, online tutorials, computer software and programming. Tactile learning is similiar to the experience is best mode of thinking. If you are an active participant in your own learning through actual hands on practice with whatever you're learning, that has the greatest impact on most people. The old Chinese proverb goes something like we remember:

30% of what we hear

50% of what we see

70% of what we do

Put all three together and you've got a well educated person, in my opinion.
