yep. a few years ago i had a nervous breakdown, brought on by stress at work (worked in a prison). i was just starting to get a bit better, when some idiots broke into the house i was living in and trashed the house and threatened my boyfriend. i really did hit rock bottom after that.
thankfully i'm a lot better now.

Yes. I had a scrape on a motorbike when I was 18, which wrecked my body and mind. Then after about 15 years, when I was starting to recover (it takes a long time to recover from a head injury) a heroin addict robbed me and accused me of the most unpleasant things imaginable in his statement to the police after I reported him. He got away with the crime and the police still direct their entire attention at me! I couldn't go anywhere for a long long time without a shadow. Then my best friend overdosed and killed himself.
Now, thanks to the absolutely lousy socialization that my father caused me to endure, I'm at home alone, incapable of getting myself into a relationship, incapable of getting myself into employment, with only boredom as a friend.
.
If you're the one who lost your son, I am so sorry if I upset you with anything that I said.

No. Once I was at the bottom, it was as far as I could go.
I rebelled, and refused to stay down.
Climbed out.
Here I am. Happy.
Can I give you a hand up?

It has happened, but only when I let it. Lesson learned perhaps. You can own your feelings and not respond to every external stimulus.
Took me a long time to learn that one.
