From what I can understand, some liberal and conservative civilians hate each other so much because of current events, each side believes the other wants to destroy the US. Personally, I don't think it's impossible for a scuffle, an employment/service discrimination, or even a murder to arise between a liberal and a conservative who are both civilians. Therefore, it may be necessary to add political beliefs to the list of grounds businesses and law enforcement are forbidden to discriminate on for the same reason we have sexual orientation and ethnicity.

You can change or conceal your politics pretty easily if you start running into trouble. And no one can tell how you vote.

I'd think ordinary protection under the law should be sufficient. If someone beats you up for being a registered member of the Libertarian National Socialist Green party, for instance, it should be enough that he beat you up.

Well, I'm not American but of all parties I mostly support the American Libertarian party. Out of the parties in my country(Macedonia) I don't really support any, but if I had to choose it would be the Liberal Democratic one. Mostly I am independent and agree and disagree with some (or more) ideas of every political party and orientation. When I'll be able to vote I'd vote for the person I think is most capable of the position, not a party.

If you are one to strongly voice your political beleifs then yes you may run into discrimination- all jobs, offices have their own political mindset- it you have a job that is important and your views are in opposition to those in power- your best bet would to share your politial views conservatively!!!!! or not at all...

well handguns are cheaper than long range sniper rifles so i'm sure someone may choose to shoot the person next to them instead of the politician. but that's also the person who would shoot the mailman over their bills. so that's not going to save them.
