Lookin to buy either the ASUS G1, or G2...or possibly an alienware. Before everyone goes "oooo alienware...leetsauce best gaming laptop ever" ....please go look at specs. Im spending no more then 2,000 , and the asus G1 is about equally equipped, if not more equipped then the 2,000 dollar alienware (only the alienware has a 7900, compared to a 7700....but only has 1 gig of ram....)

So basically, any thoughts? Any others i should look at?

Laptops are great for mobility but not that great for gaming. The best GPUs are more available for desktops than laptops. You will be spending so much for something w/ DX9 only capability and possibly no upgrade path to DX10.

Go with the ASUS. Alienware builds more expensive systems, but they're certainly not better systems.

I built my laptop on an ASUS bare bones for about $1200 about a year ago. It will continue to run anything / everything out there for some time to come.

ASUS builds excellent systems, with quality parts, and their build quality is very good. (case / heat dissipation, etc.)

As to the model of ASUS... don't go with the most expensive just because it's... expensive :) They have other models which will do what you need that aren't so much. Check some of my sources.

Newegg has one of the G1 series for close to 1700 (edit - actually.. that's not a bad price for that. If you have it. But if not, the source references will still do the job):

first of all why would you get a laptop compared to a desktop.
laptops you have to worry about battery's and it over heating. so watch out. as cool as it may seem for a laptop to have that power it will cost you more trying to upgrade laptops later when you are all out. desktops are more universal.
