I especially want to buy my groceries online and things like supplies for my printer and computer accessories. I have no credit or credit cards, and they will not give me one, as I am retired and on low income. I have no debts and have lived in my council flat over twenty years. Any suggestions or ways around this problem? Thanks.

If your debit card has a visa or mastercard logo, you can use it just like a credit card.

I understand your position, but would you really want your debit card details on line? If there are any wrong transactions it will be up to you to prove it and get recompense. A credit card is the opposite (ie. the card company has to prove the charge is legitimate). A mis-used debit card can leave you overdrawn or al least skint. If this is the way you have to go, then a separate account that you keep with just enough in it to cover your purchases would be a good move.

Thats up to your bank, not the site. The debit card works just like a credit card, if you give them the number they can charge your card, however a lot of US banks will not let you use your debit card online. If yours does not work you can get a virtual visa from epassport, which is a credit card for online shoping, you put money in your virtual account and can then spend it any place that takes Visa. Its also safer because if someone gets your number thay can only spen what you put
on the card.

I thought all debit cards were also check cards. If your card has a Visa or MC logo on it, and 16 digits, you should be able to use it anywhere credit cards are accepted. The charge will just take a few days longer to appear on your statement than a debit transaction where you enter your pin would.

I use my debit card for all my online shopping including Tesco's. Sometimes a site says "Use credit card" then gives a list of card types to key in. (Visa, Marstercard, Barclays Debit, etc.) You should be fine.

You can do it already.

Use your debit card in exactly the same way you might use a credit card. Just select the type - Visa,Mastercard etc on the appropriate box and off you go.

I thought most sites accepted debit cards. I use them wherever a credit card attracts an extra fee.

Yes, You will enter the account #, the expiration date and on the back of your card you will see a 3 digit security code. You will be asked to enter that as well. Under no circumstances should you ever be asked for your 4 digit "pin #". If you are asked for it DO NOT EVER GIVE IT!!! Leave the site immediately, it is not a reputable site!!
