Then America must be a primarily conservative country, since FOX news consistently hammers all the other networks in ratings, correct?

Americans as a whole consistently fall in the middle.
extreme liberalism and extreme conservatism do not work.
The middle group members identify with wide range of political parties, but many enjoy FOX news because it does make an attempt to present news in a way that opinions are minimized, while standard news vehicles interject primarily liberal biases.
They are not always successful but they are mostly bias free in their reporting.
That is why they are succeeding, we want news, not rhetoric, not opinion, not theories on solving nonexistent global warming issues, etc...

To answer your question. Yes, there is a hammering going on in the Media.

Media, radio,tv,print or even the internet is in business for one thing and that is to turn a profit. Even a .org is in business to make ends meet and thus be able to stay in business.

Pretzeldent, nice try. You don't have a clue about RADIO OR TV or MEDIA. Rush has an audience of 5 million in any given 15 minute segment. Verifiable.

"CBS is up Slightly in Women 18-49 Demo; ALL OTHER AUD. SEGMENTS ARE DOWN. NY Daily News says,

"The ratings picture is getting worse for CBS' Evening News with Katie Couric 5-31-07

Based on an analysis of the ratings for the 2006-2007 season...the Evening News has lost ground compared with the year before. Most of the decline has come among men aged 25-54 (off 11%) and adults older than 55 (10%).

The only audience segment to increase for CBS'Newscast was women aged 18-49, a slice of the audience that has grown 6% over the previous year during Couric's tenure."

And Pretzledent, as far as your claim to 11-12 million viewers of news per MSM...you're so far off, it's laughable. Try the range of 5-6 million on a given night for evening news. Once again, RUSH, has an audience of 5+Million in a given 15 minute segment!

Wanna take FOX News....their audience is larger than CNN,MSNBC and other left wing sites combined.

News print....they are losing subscribers faster than they can write YOU"RE OUTA HERE CHECKS.

Pretzledent, nice try...this time it don't wash. I get every media ratings that you can get....Your MSM News is a Dinosaur and that is what really IZZES you Liberals off.

HAIL FOX NEWS!

Wanna see a few items about the news,
fox, and all your other left wing parrots....try mediabistro.com. for one and then dig to find others that will give you the facts!

Public Knowledge of Current Affairs Little Changed by News and Information Revolutions
What Americans Know: 1989-2007

Republicans and Democrats are equally likely to be represented in the high-knowledge group. But significantly fewer Republicans (26%) than Democrats (31%) fall into the third of the public that knows the least

But not all news sources are created equal. The audiences for different sources vary greatly in how much they know about what's going on, a consequence both of the kinds of people who rely on each type of medium and how much they may learn from specific sources.

Internet news sources, National Public Radio, news magazines, and Rush Limbaugh's radio show have the best educated audiences, with each of these having at least 36% of their regular readers and listeners having graduated from college. The internet sources along with the comedy news shows attract younger-than-average audiences, though many older Americans regularly get news from these sources as well. The audience for the morning network news shows is disproportionately female (61%), while Limbaugh's audience is heavily male (65%). A greater than average number of men are found in the audiences for the major newspaper websites (59%), for comedy news, The O'Reilly Factor, news magazines (54% each), and the TV news websites (53% male).

Do you really want to know why FOX is the most viewed network? Mainly because it spends 80% of its time trying to keep up on entertainment news so it can compete with E television. When it comes to actual news, no one but righties watch that network.. Everyone on it that discuss politics is a joke. Hannity, please, Bill "luffa" O'Reilly, need I say more. I can turn it on FOX right now and I am sure it will be talking about Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan or some cow that escaped its pen in some small town and created chaos for the day. Fox is a joke plain and simple, you know it and we all know it. Bias load of bs.. I will say watching it for knowing about celebs it does a pretty good job... the rest is a joke.

Your logic is flawed. FOX is just one network, whereas there's also MSNBC, CNN, network news, NPR, online news, newspaper, etc. etc. Just because FOX is the singular network with the highest ratings doesn't mean that the majority of Americans are conservative, because the sum of the ratings of all the other networks (not to mention other sources of news) is much greater than FOX by itself.

Fox news has the best ratings as the majority of people feel the need to go and watch people blather shite for at least half an hour of everyday because it is great entertainment. The majortiy of people who watch fox do not watch to be informed but to laugh.

Fox is "conservative" as much as the other networks are "liberal".
They (all media) are the Military-Industrial Complex's Propaganda Department.
It's like giving you a choice between Budwieser (media approved"Conservative") and Bud-Lite (media approved"Liberal"). Of course the choice is between Beer (media propaganda) and Water (true Lib & Con FREE THOUGHT). Both Lib & Con are OK. you NEED BOTH to SURVIVE!!!!!!
they try to get us to fight over bud & bud light with toothless caricatures of both sides, all the while avoiding the REAL ISSUES.

The media's job is to limit your scope of thought through OSTENSIBLE diversity that conceals a true UNIFORMITY.
Joseph Goebbels (nazi propaganda master) spoke about this.

The whole point is "CONFORM to one of these two alternatives, but keep CONSUMING".
CONSUME CONFORM CONSUME CONFORM CONSUME CONFORM!

Conservatives and Liberals both watch Fox news.

If the people who claim they don't watch actually stop watching, it would be a different rating.

Same as Limbaugh; Libs and Cons both listen.

no, because there are several less biased sources, not just one

your logic may have been correct if there were one non-biased source, and then fox news, and fox news still got the most ratings

the people too intelligent to watch fox news watch a variety of news networks....

Since when were "ratings" a measure of integrity and professionalism?

"American Idol" has ratings...

"Cops" had ratings...

To anyone with professional experience in journalism or a scholar of language/literature, FOX "news" is an abomination. They are the National Enquirer of news reporting.
