Some do, some don't. I don't really see that they're any different than the general population in that way. (After all, they're people, right?) There may be a slightly higher rate of intellectual snobbery among professors than among the public at large, but I think it would be overgeneralizing to say all, or even most have major egos.

I don't think you could catagorize them all, and say yes. I have had a few that have had the worst egos in the world from what they have done before they became a professor. It makes me sick to even be in their classroom. This teacher talked down on us like we were rats. On the other hand, I have had brilliant doctors in grad. school that were as humble and helpful as a second grade teacher. I feel it just depends on the character of the person.

I know a few! But for the most part my college professors have been absolutely amazing and down to earth.

some do, but at least 90% of my old college professors were absolutely fabulous, kind, and caring people

i imagine that it does vary by school though. the schools that tend to draw extremely well known researchers may have more egotistical professors.

The entire Economics Dept of NUI Maynooth, Ireland's ego has it's own gravitational pull it is so immense.
