Actually, this is pretty normal. I remember a big uproar when Clinton got a $400 haircut. Wealthy and prominent people spend a lot of money on such things. Since we, as Americans, insist they be on camera all the damn time, then we have to suck it up when they have such expenses. The alternative would be to quit turning politicians into media celebrities, but that's never going to happen.

As a liberal let me ask, who cares? She is one of the most important women in the world. If we can waste a half trillion dollars on Iraq, a $700 hairdo for a woman that for her age is kinda attractive isn't so bad. Maybe she combined her and George's tax refund?

The president and the family of the president I do believe are allotted something like $50,000 a year for personal appearance....so that means we all pay for it. Before you go nuts about this, know one thing, I don't like Bush so I am not defending him... I just know the president and the family get money for clothes, hair cuts, w/e... have for as long as I can remember....nothing new

The American Tax Payer, but the sad thing is even with a $700 hair do she still looks as ugly as a wombat. No offense to the wombats.

Taxpayer's don't pay for personal services rendered such as hair cuts. However, it is likely that a private hairdresser would not charge the first lady due to the additional business it would bring in.
I agree with Shelly. don't make us liberals defend the Bushs. We have more important dragons to slay.
It doesn't really matter anyway we pay his entire salary and his staff and the pay of all public servants. The haircuts are the least of anybody's problems.

The $700 dollar figure is what she paid ONE TIME for a top Hollywood stylist to cut and style her hair for her husband's inauguration ceremony. A very special occasion for her. I doubt she spends that much on her "regular" hairdos.
