I always hear people talking about classic songs that everybody knows and most of the time I've never even heard of half of them...so what's the ONE song you think everyone should know???

Wow, just ONE?? I don't know if I can narrow it down that far.

Star Spangled Banner of course
Tainted Love-Soft Cell
The Boys Are Back In Town-Thin Lizzy
Hurricane-Bob Dylan
Twist and Shout-Beatles
Imagine-John Lennon
Were Not Gonna Take It-Twister Sister
Fight For Your Right(to party)-Beastie Boys
Paradise By The Dashboard Lights-Meatloaf
Talk Dirty To Me-Poison
Little Red Corvette-Prince
Thriller-Micheal Jackson
Sexual Healing-Marvin Gaye
The Angry American-Toby Keith

And, just because I'm biased, The Marine Corps Hymn!!!
I know that's more than one, but I can't help myself. I'm going to stop now, or I could keep going forever.

This is a tough one- probably some Beatles song would be on the money.

If you are an American, prob the one song you should know would be the national anthem.

I think you will get a different answer for each age group and where they live.

Here's some ideas: (esp if you are over 25 & been to NJ bars)
Glory Days
Twist and Shout
Sweet Caroline
Fill Me Up Buttercup
My Girl
Free Bird
Jesse's Girl
8675309
Sweet Home Alabama
Casey Jones
Can't Get Know Satisfaction
Brown Sugar
American Girl
Heart of Gold
The Joker
Take the Money and Run
Jack and Diane (or at least know when to clap) LOL

properly i'm no longer that prepared on Lynyrd Skynyrd to be trustworthy, the finished southern sound places me off. I stay interior the south so i'm consistently uncovered to the extra destructive ingredient of the southern subculture and that i merely can't get into the sound. I have been given right into a controversy as quickly as through fact a chum of a chum from manhattan pronounced I had a southern accessory. SDo I submit "i'm A Believer" via the Monkees. Or in an analogous vein "Cherry Cherry" via Neil Diamond. 2 60's pop/rock songs that are too catchy to be disliked via all of us who's ever been chuffed formerly.

There is no real answer to this question. So many songs have so many cultural depth that most should be heard.

1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles. Considered the start of rock and roll as we know it.

2. Whats Goin On - Marvin Gaye.

3. It Ain't Me Babe - Bob Dylan

So many others...but theres a start.
