Mini Coopers are front drive, all BMW's (in the US at least) are rear or all wheel drive, so no, it's not like driving a BMW.

Mini's are amongst the best driving FWD cars though, so they do have good driving characteristics in common - but they are different to drive.

yes BMW owns the Mini car brand.....does this change how they handle and how they feel.....of course......The Mini is a small car that was produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 to 2000. The most popular British-made car, it has since been replaced by the New MINI which was launched in 2001. The original is considered an icon of the 1960s, and its space-saving front-wheel-drive layout influenced a generation of car-makers. In the international poll for the award of the world's most influential car of the twentieth century the Mini came second only to the Ford Model T.

This revolutionary and distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis. It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants in the United Kingdom, and later also in Australia, Belgium, Chile, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mk I had three major updates: the Mk II, the Clubman and the Mk III. Within these was a series of variations including an estate car, a pickup truck, a van and the Mini Moke — a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally three times.

Yes.
It happend in 2001.
BMW Still Make the Mini's.
Rover had some serious financial issues this is the main reason why BMW bought it BMW bought it about 4 months prior the new mini's came out remember the Mr.Bean one well there the old ones that bmw had nothing to do with when bmw bought rover they released a new one the ones used in teh italian job.
Overall the new Mini is a great car i wouldnt say so about the old one.
The new one is pretty neat well as they say nothing beats german engineering im with that all the way.
Germany makes the greatest cars,
Mercedes Benz,Mclaren sub division of mercedes since 2003 means they are partnered with them but not owned by them there cars are made in germany though.
BMW,VW,Audi,Porsche,Bently is owned by Audi since 2003 that is why Audi didnt enter the 2003 Lemans because they helped bently out to try and win a final le mans which they did by using the R8 Tech R8 is teh prototype which has been named the greatest Racing car of all time it won the 2000,01,02,04,05 Lemans's and the succesor R10 has already won the 06 race.

They are made by BMW, and do have similar driving characteristics. But Mini's don't have the driving refinement as BMWs. They handle very well, but are stiff over uneven pavement. This 'robust' handling is done on purpose. They don't want a 25K Cooper S competing with 35K 3-series.

Yes it is. B.M.W. bought the Leyland Factory, and now British - Leyland, where they make the mini is B.M.W.
But there is no BMW engine or other BMW parts on the Mini.
It just stayed a Mini.

BMW had bought the majority stock of the Mini Rover group few years ago. Sold Rover after losing around 800 million euros, kept only Mini. Mini's are built in the Mini plant and they are not Bimmer's. They do not look like, feel like, drive like Bimmer's. They do not bear the roundel emblem either.
