You need at least one other number to have a common factor at all. The prime factors of 36 are 2^2 * 3^2.

to find greatest common factor, you need AT LEAST 2 numbers. Perhaps you meant greast factor of 36.

The greatest factor of 36 is also 36

"common" means there are at least two numbers, and you need to find the factors that are common to each.

A single number by itself doesn't have any common factors.
