Does anyone know what the square root of 450 simplifed as a surd is? I thought it was 15 square root 2 but i'm not very sure...

= 9*5*10
= 3^2 * 5^2 * 2
Taking the square root, you obtain:
3 * 5 * sqrt (2)
= 15sqrt(2).

it's already a surd. a surd is just expressing a root using the square root symbol.

but simplifying it involves finding the largest square factor and extracting it.
450 = 2*3*3*5*5 so the largest square factor is 15*15=225
sqrt(450)=sqrt(225)sqrt(2)=15sqrt(2)

√450 = √(9 x 25 x 2)
√450 = 3 x 5 x √2
√450 = 15.√2 (which agrees with your answer)

sqrt(2*5*5*3*3)
sqrt( 5^2 * 3^2 * 2)
5 * 3 sqrt(2)
15 sqrt(2)
