Religion used correctly can be a wonderful tool to aiding others and yourself. Used incorrectly such as trying to explain all things by religious definition can cause emotional problems when the one it is used on is seeking practical advice or help in a situation where religion has no real answers. Example: mental patients who are told that "god" can cure them if they only believe are more prone to huge emotional breakdowns when "god" does not follow through on the promise made by the religious person who gave the advice. Too often I hear that "god" can fix anything. The sad fact is that "he" doesn't and when this is pointed out as being the wrong thing to say to someone who is under mental stress, I am told that I will burn in hell for not believing enough. Religion does not have all the answers, but it can help in some cases.

There is always the person to be leaned on for emotional support. They have picked you. My mother was the leaning stone for a time, and now it has been passed down to me. That is just family!

I personally DO have to solve all my family's problems....most times I am the adult and my mom is the child...i have to look after her kids plus mine plus figure out how she can solve all her problems too. so yes, they do expect you to solve their problems. i guess it's a sign that they see us as adult, confident and capable. or they're just lazy.
