I agree, the Shedd tops my list too. The Golden Gate is nice and I wouldn't Miss the Tennessee or Georgia Aquariums if you have the chance to see them.

Shedd in Chicago is simply amazing - I've never been, but I've seen it featured on The Discovery Channel (I'm a sucker for that channel...). Also, the Monterey Bay aquarium in Carlifornia looks amazing!
Of the few I've been to (Detroit - now closed, but was the oldest open Aquarium in the US; Newport Aquarium in Kentucky and Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN; National Aquarium in DC; a small aquarium by Longboat Key, FL) I say it's a toss up between Newport and Ripley's. :)

I like the one in Baltimore. Actually, I like the one in Washington DC under the Commerce building as well. That one is very old, I think Franklin Roosevelt started it because he was into aquariums. It might have been Teddy Roosevelt, though. Anyway, it is very vintage and different than the modern huge aquariums around.

The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta gets my vote. The whale sharks are so cool, as are the leafy sea dragons.

Have you been to the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky? I'm always a sucker for the shark tunnels. I think the Omaha Zoo had one of them too.
