Why is it bad?

It's her choice. I'm sure many other terminally ill patients have asked for pre-release copies. While an 81-year old man who is terminally ill is sad, it's not rude of Rowling to deny the request. This is her LAST BOOK. If anything, and I mean ANYTHING, gets leaked out then it's ruined. There's no special secret to it.

1. How do you keep the nurse from reading it?

2. Who says there are no libraries in heaven?

3. How is that fair to all of the children who have no idea that they are going to die from accidents, or abuse, who never got to see the book as well? I am not trying to make light of anyone's plight here. I am just saying that on the pure measure of fairness, there is no way to be fair. If the book is let out to even one person, the ending is given away. In certain, very rare circumstances this would not be an issue, but if it becomes one, then the fairness principle goes right out the window.

4. If the 81 year old man hangs in there until he gets a chance to read the story, has J. K. Rowling then given him a reason to live, and if so is that a good thing, or a bad thing? If the man is in constant pain and the only thing he is living for is to see the book, I would say that the matter is between the man and his spiritual mentor and J. K. Rowling has only an ancillary role in this matter.

It is very easy to pin blame, or assign fault. There is no blame to assign and it really isn't anyone's fault. Ms. Rowling has little or no control over when her book gets published or released in the first place, and she might incur heavy penalties for breaching her contract with the publishing company. Every day that we live is a miracle. Whether or not we get to read the latest Harry Potter book in the course of that miracle is a nice little bonus, but either way, it doesn't spoil the miracle.

I distinctly remember reading an article about J.K. Rowling befriending a terminally ill young girl. She was a frequent visitor to the girl's hospital room, read her unpublished chapters from Order of the Phoenix (which she was writing at the time), and she shared secrets about the story with the girl before she passed away. So your question is fundamentally unfair- J.K. Rowling can't do this for every fan of hers who happens to be dying (which, by the way, we all are). An 81 year old man passing away- although sad- is a natural part of life.
No one is going to live long enough to hear the "end" to everything they want to hear/see/know.

Motivations are often the real judgement for wether or not something is bad.

Rowling never releases advanced copies because she cares about her fans. She understands that her fan base is children and that the world is full of people who delight in crushing their childish beliefs. She doesn't want anyone going to a child before the book comes out and telling them "dumbledore dies" and taking the fun and adventure out of it. Most people really hate it when you reveal spoilers.

She has to make a choice between the desire of an 81 year old dying man, or risking the disillusionment of all the children in the world who love this series. She also doesn't have the time or resources to check out the story of every single person who wants the book early.

It's a tough moral cause, and I'm sure she spent a great deal of time agonizing over the decision. She is a very nice lady who just wants to bring joy into the world and is constantly critized for everything she does. I respect her decision and am glad i didn't have to be the one to make it.

countless those have been spoke back, earlier, yet to make clean for a collection of people who look uncertain, and to offer the common solutions for others: The locked room (i anticipate) refers back to the locked door interior the dep. of Mysteries, the room wherein exists the skill Harry has in abundance (Allegedly, Love). Harry is neither concerning Voldemort or Dumbledore. If he became concerning Dumbledore, he does no longer have been with the Dursleys - they are his basically kin. Voldemort is the final inheritor of Salazar Slytherin, so can't be concerning Harry the two. i do no longer anticipate Tonks/Lupin to marry - there is already a marriage in Deathly Hallows, and that i doubt JKR will write 2 in one e book the place there is plenty floor to conceal already. Harry does no longer ought to die to kill Voldemort. The prophecy does no longer state that, it says the two ought to die on the hand of the different. It does no longer, regardless of the undeniable fact that, say he won't the two. James and Lily's wealth contains the gathered Potter money - as an previous pureblood kinfolk, they have been properly off. The 'destructive boy' in OOTP became James. Regulus tried to bypass away the dying Eaters through fact he grew to become frightened of what he became being requested to do and needed out. maximum probable individual to assist Regulus previous the horcrux protections would be Kreacher - additionally explains why he's nuts. in accordance to how the Fidelius works, Hagrid ought to have common already the place the Potters have been hiding with a view to retrieve infant Harry. Wormtail would have provided the Potters with a chunk of paper with the secret written on it so as that they might tutor human beings they depended on. in accordance to HBP, bill heavily isn't an entire werewolf nevertheless it does not say he won't go through some outcomes on the brink of the finished moon. Neville and Luna won't hook up - says so on JKR's website. i'd desire to be attentive to: After the blood ritual for Voldemort's resurrection, shouldn't the blood wards at Privet force be ineffective if Voldy has Harry's blood in his veins? if so, why does Dumbledore deliver him lower back there? in case you examine the prophecy with the word "Neville Longbottom is the different" in strategies, does it exchange all your expectancies?

No. Even though he is terminally ill, there can be no exceptions when it comes to things like that. the realease date is the release date. You never know, he could spill it to the world what the book was about! There is no bending the rules when it comes to release dates of things, especially one of the biggest books in the world.

Of course, J. K. Rowling's refusal to give this gentleman an advance copy will give him added incentive to live until the July 21, 2007, release date unless, of course, the suspense is killing him.

She has no choice. She signed the book over to the publishers. She doesn't have the legal right to release an early copy.

Besides, if she did release it, then millions of people would request one for their allegedly sick friends.

Nope, not at all, because he may just be saying that he isn't gonna make it till then to get the book early, and there is a chance that he will spoil it for everyone, and he will make a lot of fans mad.

It's pretty bad for kids, but I seriously don't think an 81-year-old guy is going to care so much.
