Expand & simplify the expression.

3x - 2(2x^2 - 5x)

First: eliminate parenthesis - use the Distribution Method.

3x - 2(2x^2) - 2(- 5x)
3x - 4x^2 - (-10x)
3x - 4x^2 + 10x

Sec: combine "like" terms.

- 4x^2 + 10x + 3x
- 4x^2 + 13x

You don't need to do anything to the first part of the equation (as there is no bracket by it) which means it is still 3x. The other half of the equation needs the work at this point( as there is a bracket to multiply out). What you need to do is multiply -2 by 2x^2 - 5x so you get -4x^2 + 10 x.
If you then write out the whole equation you get:
3x + (-4x^2 + 10x) then take out the brackets and neaten up you get:
-4x^2 + 13x

3x - 4x^2 + 10x (multiply the -2 to everything in parenthesis)

13x - 4x^2

10x + 3x = 13x

Hope that helps.
